BOX OFFICE: THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Hits $537.2M Worldwide; Looks Set To Earn $1B

The Dark Knight Rises had a fairly limited international release last weekend, but now that is is open in a total of 57 markets (nearly 17,000 screens), the threequel has earned an estimated $122.1 million according to Deadline. That takes its current international total to an impressive $248.2 million, and after it grossed $64 million in North America this weekend - where it now has a domestic total of $289 million - that gives it a worldwide cume of $537.2 million. Despite a slower than expected start due to the tragic Aurora, Colorado, shooting, this is a good indication that The Dark Knight Rises will finish its theatrical run with $1 billion (The Dark Knight hit that figure only after being re-released).

Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ "The Dark Knight Rises" is the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. The screenplay is written by Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan, story by Christopher Nolan & David S. Goyer. The film is produced by Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Charles Roven, who previously teamed on “Batman Begins” and the record-breaking blockbuster "The Dark Knight." The executive producers are Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Kevin De La Noy and Thomas Tull, with Jordan Goldberg serving as co-producer. The film is based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. Batman was created by Bob Kane.

STARRING:

Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman
Michael Caine as Alfred
Gary Oldman as Commissioner Jim Gordon
Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox
Tom Hardy as Bane
Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman
Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake
Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate

RELEASE DATE: July 20th, 2012

Agreed, Bale did give an amazing performance. Have to say though I didn't really mind the last fight, defenatly could have been a lot more but wasn't really a last down like the last boss battle in iron man 2

Hey if it makes a billion that'll be great, if not I honestly don't care. This movie did its job and entertained me. In the end that's all I really ask for from a film.

Ckal, I agree, the first fight was one of the best scenes in the series, the final one kinda felt like they just wanted it to be over with. I didn't like Catwoman barging in last minute either.

@ blackandyellow amen brother! I thought dkr was good but I can't wait for the reboot. I think nolans films came at the right time. It took batman from the campy mess to the oscars which is Incredible in my book. Now we can hope for more batman movies that are maybe closer to the comics. I only have two requests for the new movies ditch the black rubber suit and put in a shot of batman jumping across rooftops silhouetted against the full moon al a dark knight returns.

@Maximus - The first fight should of been epic to everyone. If anybody didn't think it was epic, then I doubt they even read any Batman comics over the years. Especially Knightfall.

Imagine that, we CBM fans are going to have two one billion dollar movies in the same year. That is pretty awesome!!!

Oh I'm sorry if we're having fun, you f****** c***. It's just like sports fans, you pick a team and you cheer for it, in this case its a combination of box office gross and critical acclaim.

I liked all three (TA, TDKR, TASM) but that doesn't mean I'm going to act like a prick with a superiority complex.

This is excellent news because it was an excellent movie. I rewatched it yesterday and I still loved it.

The box office doesn't matter to me most of the time if it is a good movie I'll watch it no matter what it's gross is but I want this movie to do well because it is the last movie to a perfect trilogy and it is truly a great film.

How do you get 1B out of 537.2 worldwide the second week? Overseas, it is doing terribly.
timmyjingoro
timmyjingoro - 7/29/2012, 11:03 AM
@blackandyellow
...(contd.)

And what would you have us do? say s*** like "Oh, this movie looks good", "Oh this movie is a little bit inadequate. However, I am going to be discrete about it", "Make peace. Not war.", "Let's all live under rainbows and sunshine"

f*** that.

That kind of fake behavior isn't what sites like CBM are for. You give your opinion. Whether good or bad. And you support your movie with a passion (or vice verse).

@Tainted87
Its been out for 9 days. So it's actually 537M in about ONE week. and its doing really well outside. I think its already made more than Hunger Games entire run internationally, and that's just in one weekend for most countries since it had a limited international release last week.

Avengers was on track to 2B worldwide before MIB3 and SWATH slowed it down, so I wouldn't compare it to Avengers for track of 1B

The reason why so many fans care about the box office numbers, is the attention the movie gets. Fans of these movies feel like, if the movie makes alot of money, than that means millions of people have gone out to see the movie, and it makes them feel like the moive is special, no matter if the film is good or not, because in the end movie arguments are settle by box office numbers and how many Oscar's you have. lol Just a thought!

Definitely the best movie of the summer movie wise. I loved the Avengers but there was no point in that movie where I felt like the heroes were in dangerespecially since Hulk was killing everything in his path. The Dark Knight Rises was so much more intense and I didn't know if Batman was gonna die or not.

I dont think it will make a billion simply because overseas batman is not popular I mean look at TDK, made bearly a billion thankx to the USA box office(the only 1 billion movie that made more on USA than overseas) for that reason, it start slow but its kind of sick blaming aurora tragic so much!!! Thats unhuman, I mean noone blame Heth Ledger for TDK for its unexpected success like that much money. Stop blaming the aurora tragic(at least prayers or something that makes sense) and stop with the money, money doesnt matter in this movies. Great movie btw
