Unfortunately, the videos below don't seem to cover the entirety of Christian Bale's speech (hopefully MTV will release it at some point this week) but the second one in particular shows just how emotional the actor became after seeing scenes of Heath Ledger's Joker played during the awards ceremony last night. "Wow, great to remember Heath at that moment. Wonderful to see Heath Ledger there," he said. The Dark Knight Rises footage shown following the introduction by Bale and co-stars Gary Oldman and Joseph Gordon-Levitt has also yet to be released officially online. Be sure to sound off with your thoughts in the usual place.

Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ "The Dark Knight Rises" is the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. The screenplay is written by Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan, story by Christopher Nolan & David S. Goyer. The executive producers are Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Kevin De La Noy and Thomas Tull, with Jordan Goldberg serving as co-producer. The film is based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. Batman was created by Bob Kane.

can you imagine if Heath Ledger didn't play The Joker and is still alive. maybe TDKR wouldn't get this much hype for everyone.

does it make me a horrible cynic that I watch this and see an actor using his "tricks of the trade" to shake of the less than savoury image he's gained over the years?

Actually feel like quite a bastard!

@Supersonicboobs I thought it was, but it has gone quiet, but hopefully nearer the time we will know for sure, TDKR attached to the Avengers, wasn't announced that long before the film...I think.

suppose it's not beyond the realms of possibility, but it seems strange that Bale should show this crack in composure more than 4 years, when at the time he was emotionally collected/respectful. remorsfully I just see a stunt.

Let's look at it this way. Bale and Ledger probably became very close because they were working together. Ledger suddenly died out of the blue. It would have been a shock for everyone involved. My grandmother died out of the blue two years ago and it still hurts me to think about it to this day. Grief can be a very random.

The franchise is about to tell it's the final chapter, which has been a big part of Bale's life. Of course the man is going to feel emotional. I don't think this is down to any cheap parlour tricks. What would they gain from it. This film is hyped as it is. Many people loved The Dark Knight and many people want to see how this all ends.

I am a fan of Lost. The episode that had the most viewings was the final episode because people wanted to see what happens. Even if people don't like this franchise they will still be drawn to watch it because it is the conclusion of two critically acclaimed films.

We are definitely living in the age of cynics, that is certain.

If Bale wasn't an egotistical douche this thread would be different. If it was Gary Oldman getting choked up people would respect it.

Using the death of the person that brought in 99.99% draw to the last film for the sequel. Smart low move
