JOKER Star Marc Maron Doesn't Want To Hear Your Complaints About Him Disliking Marvel Movies

GLOW star and stand up comedian Marc Maron has a minor role in Joker, and recent remarks he made about Marvel movies has led to quite a bit of backlash. Now, Maron has responded on social media...

Marc Maron recently appeared on Conan and talked about the negative cultural impact he believes Marvel movie are having while jokingly dismissing them as being for "grown male nerdchilds."

Needless to say, the response to his remarks has been a vocal one, and he's now taken to social media to elaborate.

As you can see below, he's standing by what he said, but also makes it clear that he does appreciate comic books as a whole. Maron also addresses his role in Joker, an upcoming DC Comics movie (which some have claimed makes him a hypocrite).

The actor and stand up comedian points out that what attracted him to that project is the fact that it tells a very human story, and he also makes it clear that he didn't appear for a massive pay day!

Of course, some die hard fans won't appreciate what Maron has to say here, but he doesn't seem to mean any harm with his comments (unlike Bill Maher's vile remarks about Stan Lee). It's just his opinion, and that's something the GLOW star is perfectly entitled to.

What do you guys think?

Just trying to stay relevant, it seems.

Bill Maher should have him on and they can jerk each other off.

Marc Maron is a funny dude - doesn’t give a shit about Marvel or DC or comic books. Gotta love a man of principles. It’s his opinion.

Dudes also probably got one of the best podcasts out there though - hell of an interview. Always entertaining to listen to.

Comic fans take criticism too seriously sometimes. Some people like Comic book media and others just look down on it as a lesser form of entertainment. That's perfectly ok.

I also agree with him that it's better to have human heroes to aspire to than fictional ones.

Well of course you are allowed to not like superhero movies. Most of the world doesn’t. But when you start insulting the people that do of course they are going to take offense. Imagining saying only grown man children like basketball or only grown man children like rock music, those fandoms aren’t going to be pleased even if you are an asshat who actually holds those opinions.

Jesus Christ, who cares? Part of Maron's whole schtick is being a provocateur, this is the same guy who went on Letterman and said this:
“Don’t misunderstand: I’m not saying I want to have sex with teenage girls… I’m lying: of course I want to have sex with teenage girls. Come on, doesn’t everyone? That’s why there’s a law.”

Who cares if he doesn't like superhero movies? Being an curmudgeonly old man is part of his routine at this point.
If you don't wanna give him free publicity then don't run his tweets, but I guess asking for journalistic integrity from @JoshWilding might be a bridge too far.

Definitely the most exposure he's ever received in his career. I'm sure he's jerking off as we read this.

There's shitty people in every fandom. But if he's going to be upset about them attacking him on social media, maybe he shouldn't have said anything that would trigger them in the first place.

Maron is obviously doing this to get a response, if you watch any of his specials you know he's an outrage comedian. Honostly who cares the guy has every right to have an opinion, and people need to stop being thin skinned. Your giving him exactly what he wants when you get pissed at his comments.

@Nightwing1015 - Is it? Because I’m never letdown by Superman. He’s something you can aspire to. Yet all the people who saw Bill Cosby or Harvey Weinstein or OJ Simpson or Josh Duggar as personal heroes might not feel the same way anymore. Fables have taught morals for thousands of years.

I like Marc Maron, and don’t really care what he thinks of superhero movies. Then again, I don’t mind him taking some lumps (in the form of angry tweets) for being elitist either.

@Nightwing1015 - to a certain extent... His hero was deniro, which is fine for him I guess, but for all we know he could be a shit human being.

We'll never really know the people we idolize so having a hero isn't necessarily important. Just aspire to be better

I mean, you only have to look at the way people reacted to the Spider-Man news from last week to know that he's at least a little bit right. And yes, DC has their fans that act the same way, but there is this weird notion that to speak in any way against Marvel, and more specifically the MCU, is tantamount to heresy.

@TheUnworthyThor

Yeah I agree that stories can teach us important lessons and morals. I should've said it's important to have real life heroes in addition to fictional heroes.

I still think real life heroes are more important though. People like family members or friends who will actually be there for you in your life and can help and advise you. Superman can't actually talk to you about your problems sadly.

Eh I could care less about what he said(I could care less but wI on't that's how much I care). He's not really an actor I check for or watch his films. His segment on easy was shit anyway

@alphadog - The Weinsteins profound impact on Hollywood. Anyone into indie film and paving your own way in area dominated by huge corporations could have seen them as personal heroes.

It's always the same. People always have superficial issues with the genre or insult the fans. If half the people who said negative shit about comicbook movies had actual critiques they wouldn't be attacked. "My HeRoEs ArE rEaL" okay? What lessons did you learn from them? How did they inspire you? What was the overall effect of them on where you are now? All of these can be answered by people who love comic books, people who like politics and people who follow sports, etc. Most of these people just come off as pretentious cause they never express what they dislike about the content they just attack the people for liking something different then go "THATS MY OPINION" when called out.

So you're right, sometimes we don't know the people we idolize. But sometimes we do. And they're the most important heroes in out lives.

So touche.

CBMs might well be having a negative cultural impact but we'll have to wait and see

@Nightwing1015 - But sadly not everyone in this world is fortunate enough to have good role models in their life and imitating the behavior of poor role models as one gets older just further perpetuates those failings and those flaws.
