TDKR: Tom Hardy, Alon Aboutboul & (Possibly)Marion Cotillard Arrive On Set

One of the intrepid lads over at the TDKR Facebook Fan page managed to snap a few pics of some of the cast members of Christopher Nolan's Batman threequel arriving to the London set today..

That last pic is apparently Cotillard, but I can't tell from that shot, can you? Anyway, I realize there is nothing terribly exciting about members of a cast turning up to shoot the movie they are in, especially as they are not in character, but it is the first time these guys have been snapped so I figured they were worth posting given it's a fairly slow news day. Be sure to head over to the FB page to give the guys some props.

Damn, he looks tiny! But he'll do a great job either way. They might use a bit of CGI to make him taller after he starts taking that serum-type steroid thing. But that's a big maybe since Nolan tries to avoid going the sci-fi route as much as possible.

This is probably Bane before the serum and then they will use CGI for when he has the serum and he will bulk up a little more. He looks way bigger in the Teaser photo.

Sure hardy's going to be good but can't help but think he would have suited another CBM character well who's pretty short and bulky, and quite hairy

It's a movie. They can hide height. Keep in mind Hugh Jackman was taller than all of his cast mates in X-Men, even James Marsden, when Cyclops should have been head an shoulders above Logan.

The more people go on about CGI being used the more I just want it to be him and no changes, I dont care about the source material, i just want great acting and a great character.

They are going to need to use some CGI to give Hardy some more size. I love how guys will buff up their upper body and don't address their twiggy legs. It doesn't look like Hardy has any calf muscle. Many guys that want to put on some size don't care about neglecting their legs, but In this case the trainer should know better.

This movie is going to be amazing. They will have to use CGI. Nolan understands that the character does need to be bigger than Batman

Seriously guys, I you actually think Nolan will go NEAR Hardy with CGI I think your a bit doolally!

@RorMachine

Actually, Nolan for the most part has been adverse to CGI unless it cant really be done any other way. If people think Hardy being huge is the most important thing, over acting they are missing the point of what Nolan is doing.

@Ranger14 BruceWayneNewton

How often does CGI bare skin/muscle look good? you want a toned down white hulk?

@brazilianbatman

Nolan can and has used CGI in his cbm's its just that it shouldnt be important to make Bane huge when the character elements are arguably more important to the story telling. If you want to see something where a giant Bane breaks a huge batmans back go back to the comics. Nolan is reinventing this character like he said and for me it will be infinitely more interesting than what the comics do.

No one ever said Tom Hardy's Bane is going to break Bruces back.

At least use the LOTR technique to make him look bigger. I don't want the Hulk body but I don't want the Hardy body either..

@BruceWayneNewton

To be honest the LOTR forced perspective technique wont really work when you are only trying to make a man look a foot or so taller than someone else, as the difference would be too subtle and it really limits what you can do/would only work with scenes where they are sat or stood next to each other. wouldnt work in any kind of fight scene or in movement.

I guess you point about not wanting the hardy body proves what happens when people read too much fantastic source material and want it translated exactly so.

Nolan's gotta do something to make Hardy look bigger. I think the IMAX cameras they're using, with some low angle shots, giving the effect that makes Hardy look taller, would be good enough i suppose (didn't they do this for AHNULD and Stalone to make them look taller in Terminator and Rocky? Cause they're not the tallest actors either).

I don't see Nolan using cgi to make him look bigger. If he does, I guess that's ok, as long as it doesnt make Hardy look any less realistic. I dont wanna look at Bane and say "Yup. I can tell that's definately cgi."

@forthesake on that note, even if Bruce doesn't get his back broken (i don't believe Nolan will copy the Knightfall bit word for word at all), he will be broken some way. Nolan hasn't showed us Bruce's fall in the series yet, where his fall can lead to his rise. Hence, Dark Knight Rises? Heh? Heh? :P

I disagree that CGI isn't up to the task. Look at Captain America. that movie is getting well-earned praise for the visual achievement of making Chris Evans both versions of Steve.
now, it's not that dramatic for Bane of course, but enhancements? i would love to see it. i have no doubt Hardy can act the hell out of the role, but i think Bane should be an over-sized monster. not Hulk size, but larger than Hardy is looking.
JakeMurdock89
JakeMurdock89 - 7/5/2011, 5:55 PM
I don't think Nolan will use cgi on Hardy. I think the route he is gna go is that Bane is impervious to pain instead of being a huge giant dude.
nvision
nvision - 7/5/2011, 6:01 PM
Tom Hardy was chosen because Nolan knows he would be great at portraying Bane as both intelligent yet destructable character.

What you guys are worried about Hardy being to short and small size I believe they would make use of the fear toxin Bane would be potrayed by Batman as a larger than life menacing character.

The reason why he has the mask is for a steriodal inhaler that would somehow get to the blood fast and will help not breathing the fear toxin that is released to the city of Gotham.

C'mon, I don't think Nolan will use CGI on Bane... the guy ordered to construct a huge plane fuselage just for some shooting! I think Bane will be more focused on immunity to pain instead a hulk sized guy.

Hey, anyone noticed that israeli actor in the pics?? Maybe he's dr Death!

@grimcock29 stop trolling i only posted twice and it is just my opinion if you think its not clever thats cool just dont read it. I just think it could be a possible way to make Bane larger than life even if it was just a short period. But I understand that would be redundant but again who knows what is going to happen that is part of what forums are for. If we all agreed on these these forums it would be pointless to comment.

I concure

I second that

Okay on to the next one.

I love how many fools are judging what Nolan and Hardy are doing with the character before we've seen anything. I recall people saying something similar about Heath's Joker, and look how that turned out!

Just wait and see.
Ne0Baggins
Ne0Baggins - 7/5/2011, 7:45 PM
You know; if people never saw Nolan's films, it might make sense that some people think he'll use CGI muscles on Bane. But we've seen the movies and seen how Nolan makes the films. Why would anyone think that Nolan is going to use CGI in such a way when there is absoulutely no logical reason to believe that?

And this is the nice way to put it without calling anyone retarded.
Ranger14
Ranger14 - 7/5/2011, 8:11 PM
Whether Nolan uses CGI or not, logic says that he needs to do something to make Bane look somewhat imposing like Bane is supposed to be. Hardy isn't cutting it with what we have seen so far so let's see what Nolan will do. If he does nothing, then it is a major fail to portray one of Batman's most physically imposing adversaries in the way we are currently seeing Hardy.
