Her favorite Catwoman Comic Book
"There is a later one where it's the origin story of Selina [Kyle] and she's [the] Cat and she follows this guy into a museum because she wants to steal this piece, and she touches it and this guy is like 'You've defiled it with your female hands,' " said Hathaway. "[It also includes] her training to become a fighter and she has to battle the guy who was a jerk to her in the beginning, and you get to meet her master who believed in her and who gave her a shot."

Anne discusses first meeting of Catwoman and The Dark Knight in 1940 Batman #1.
"They are on a ship, and Catwoman has been impersonating an old woman and Batman tears off her disguise -- and she's only known as the Cat [at this point] -- so she jumps at him, and is like 'I will claw your eyes out' and Batman's response to her is 'Quiet or Papa Spank.' I was like, thank god times have changed and Chris Nolan believes in equality of the sexes."

After lashing out against her Catwoman critics, Anne Hathaway has been opening up today at the junket for her new movie One Day. This time she reveals the extensive comic book research she put into the role.

As for Anne's favorite Catwoman comic book, I believe she is referring to the story of the ninja. Selina Kyle prostitute and thief goes to a museum to steal a totem, and after she grabs the relic a ninja swoops in and takes it from her. She follows after the ninja and tracks him down to a warehouse that turns out to be a secret martial arts training facility. Once she is spotted spying on the ninja and his minions she is attacked. She shows tremendous grace and speed that's rewarded with a request to join the secret academy. Thus she learns from the ninja and becomes Catwoman.

The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters July 20th 2012 and stars Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth, Garly Oldman as Jim Gordon, Tom Hardy as Bane, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake and Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate.

As for her whole "equality of the sexes" remark, I hope she doesn't keep riding on those throughout the entire movie. I know she's CatWOMAN...but I just want to enjoy a good movie without having to focus on controversial issues too much.

;D

Whoever knows batman comics really really well, can you recommend at least 2 or 3 of the best Batman comics within the last decade that has The high tech version of Catwoman.. Basically the 3 best catwoman storylines??
HemingfordGrey
HemingfordGrey - 8/9/2011, 7:50 PM
@ Shunt
Hmmm, honestly I would have to recommend some of the stories from the Catwoman run DC had a few years ago. Or, if you would like, Gotham City Sirens was an awesome run and any one of those stories would be amazing.
It really depends on what you like in a comic about Catwoman, whether or not you want to read some of the Elseworlds, or cannon stories.
Also, when you say "The high tech version of Catwoman" what do you mean? I am going to assume the modern Catwoman as she doesn't use as many unique gadgets in her arsenal as Batman does.
In short, I recommend anything from Gotham City Sirens, Long Halloween (or better yet Dark Victory), Heart of Hush was alright, and, my favorite stories are from a few years ago back when she had her dealings with Black Mask.
Hope this helps.

^ This link is her Defense...."If you liked the costume you have good taste?".....Bit*ch....You're no where near the most sexiest Catwoman, the only reason this over-rated actress is where she's at is because she does more scenes with her clothes off than on...Youre a good actress, but not a great actress....you [frick]ing sellout!!!

I still think they should of choose someone else like Olivia Wilde (Decent actress at MOST), but she at least fits the look of CATWOMAN. Shit, I'll take Charlize Theron....anyone besides Hathaway.

And what's up with Bane, he looks like (Mortal Kombat's ) Kabal's retarded bald brother....put him on some venom already....because from the pics it looks lie Batman will break Banes Back not the other way around.

That's like the 3rd or 4th series that she's mentioned reading from. It's good to know she's really into seeing the different takes on the character she's playing.

I'd also like to add that I couldn't care less what the majority of the fanboys are saying either. I [frick]ING LOVE THIS WOMAN!!! Anne is smoking hot and I just don't get what any of the gripe is about. I predict her impressing a LOT of people come 2012

All she needs to do is watch Halle Berrys "Catwoman", and look at it as "What not to do." and she should be fine.

The Ed Brubaker Darwyn Cooke stories are the best. As is Selina's Big Score.

I love Year One, but hate that they made Catwonan into a hooker, but that Miller for ya.

The Long Halloween is great, though.

As for the papa spank, people were a lot into that in the '40s.

I haven't read any Catwoman stories in the past 10 years or so, but the Mindy Newell Catwoman mini series from '89 where Selina starts off as a prostitute is pretty good. The whole Jim Balent drawn era was pretty good. My favorite story from that time is this

She protects Gotham while Batman is the bad guy. She has a maid that wears a skimpy French maid uniform while she walks around the house in a see through nightie. How can it get any better than that? ;)

Man that picture is not flattering to her face, but then again, her face doesn't tend to bring about flattery imo. She looks and sounds like a dork. Not Catwoman material. I hope her performance is somehow able to distract from this.

Oh and the papa spank thing is kinda funny. It's funny to think how people back then wrote some of these lines. I think a batpod tire might help her face:)

The comic she's referring to is the Catwoman Year One annual (not to be confused with Batman: Year One) and it is pretty good. Back in the Jim Balent era. I like Her Sister's Keeper, personally. And the Catwoman mini-series, Bloosdtorm, the recent #50. Ah shit, Catwoman's always good. Even that original novel was good, with the Russian and the Connection.
I don't think Hathaway's actually bullshitting about wanting to be Catwoman her whole life. I know it's the thing to see, but I believe her. She does seem like a fan.

I demand that be in the movie.
Batman: "Bad talking kitty!"
Catwoman: "It's just a name, I'm a woman!"
Batman puts finger to her lips
Batman: "Quiet or Papa spank!"
Bane: Malicidon!
SpiderFan35
SpiderFan35 - 8/10/2011, 11:04 AM
Yes there needs to be more spanking in CBM's imo.

Hathaway is getting annoying now, "Thank God...Chris Nolan believes in equality of the sexes"? wtf? Now he is some kind of champion for women's rights? I guess he wants her to feel "empowered" wearing the skin tight costume. Of course if anyone other than Nolan was directing they would have Catwoman running around in a bikini bringing Batman his slippers and a martini between baking pies. Please.
Catwoman has endured as a formidable Batman foe since day one because she is tough and sexy at the same time, and uses her female wiles to manipulate the world. Nolan didn't invent the character or the concept, nor did he create the Sun and the Moon and the rest of the Universe. Enough already.
