The Dark Knight Rises, he doesn't fall

The Dark Knight Rises, he doesn't fall

It's even in the title. But why does the trailer lead us to this conclusion, that he is defeated? Check out my opinion....

The Nolan Trilogy has had one constant theme, “Why do we fall, So that we might learn to pick ourselves up.” I believe, this is important to understand as we watch trailers and speculate about what is going to happen.
It all started when Bruce fell down the well and his father calmly retrieved him. Then his parents die in front of him and he blames himself for making them leave the play early. The blame made him feel as though it was okay to take revenge, but someone beats him to it. He didn't learn to pick himself up until Ra's showed him what is worth standing for, indirectly.

The Dark Knight showed the audience that Batman could stand for justice and restore hope. He even was able to take the blame for something he didn't do to protect that hope.
Why rehash what you already know? Well, we have all seen the trailer and the poster showing the broken mask. Also, the “Legend Ends” theme is pretty ominous. I have some reasons that this may just be a slick spin to get people emotionally involved. And it's working, currently there are two trailers and a prologue and it's still over 6 months from being released. Plus, we have no idea what is going to happen in the movie.
I think it's all a ruse. Remember in Begins when Alfred gets masks and cracks one with a baseball bat. Maybe this is one of those masks, he did get 1000(?) of them. And didn't Gordon “die.” Even his wife was fooled, “playing it close to the chest.” The legend of Batman ends not Batman, but the story. It's just that in this story he has to learn to pick himself up.
BTW... I would love to see Bane break Batman's back, but he's not going to die.

I'm pretty sure what they mean by "Rises" is that he finally becomes the hero that Gotham NEEDS! The Legend ending most likely has a double meaning. One being that it's the last in this series of movies and two being that the people of Gotham thought him a murderer, and in that he became a legend. I think it'll all come to light that he's there to help, and that he played no part in the death of Harvey Dent.

Because even if Bruce Wayne dies the Batman has become an icon it has become a symbol of hope something that can never die.

WAIT WAIT .......BATMAN NEVER DIES, HE GETS HIS BACK BROKEN AND THEN RECOVERS.
I belive he might do that in this movie, maybe or maybe not. But Bane has to Break The Bat. He Just has to.

Yeah, I really find it hard to believe that Nolan would kill Batman. Batman was still kinda finding his feet in the first 2 films, he was still new to the job. Perhaps this time he will become the hero Gotham needs and the public will start to see that.

I doubt Nolan will kill off Batman. He'd have to have some pretty big balls to do that and frankly I don't reckon he'd take that liberty with a character that isn't actually his.

I'm also hoping that he doesn't retire Batman. As far as I'm concerned, Bruce will never be able to give up the mantle. Only way I'd be on board is if I had a guarantee that The Dark Knight Returns would be adapted a few years later.

Wishful thinking I know...

This is a tough one. I remember three years ago when i heard paramount fast tracking a sequel to iron man and faveru being reluctant about going into it without doing a major hunt for a “good story.” But since he was under contract and the studio didn't really respect him they forced him into making a piece of hot garbage.

But there is a flip side to that coin.

Dark knight is different because the author of the previous two remains in tack yes. But their is still a possibility that what may be a fitting conclusion may not actually be what fans want.

Total control doesn’t necessarily mean the director will be able to achieve perfection even if he has the best intentions. Does anyone remember THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS and how the very thought of an awful conclusion was virtually inconceivable after seeing the masterfully constructed original…yet it happened anyway. In stunning fashion might i add. The Warchowski’s (did I spell their name right?… Who cares.) had three years and unlimited backing and they still made a god awful and depressing movie that should have been called. Neo’s last supper.

The Matrix revolutions is not only the worst third chapter ever made but serves as a warning for reaching too far exceeding your own grasp. You risk destroying the fond memory of your earlier work. Even though it has been revealed that they weren‘t actually the inspiration for the original story.

This is a double edged problem that only if you have a secret formula(which Nolan may have he hasn‘t made a stinker yet) your setting the expectation meter so high that only if you blow up the cinema sky high will anyone be satisfied. But of course you don’t want to be too grandiose. We don’t want to see Batman a martyr ala Jesus Christ (neo in Revolutions) those kind of moves are so clichéd that your almost doomed to incite the wraith of critics who will savage your work like a pack of ravenous animals. DON’T EVEN TRY IT!!!!

The problem is do you go for a safe and crowd pleasing conclusion (TRANSFORMERS 1-3)or do you do something different and try to expand on your earlier work by making a movie that ignores the original concept and seeks to redefine it( a curve ball perhaps. Example: Alfred was Bruce‘s father all along or Bane was his brother). Knowing full well that if you try something that no one suspects and you fail. Your not only going to irritate critics but you'll alienate fans and you can completely forget about Oscar gold. But if on the other hand you succeed…

You’ll be legendary.

This is a tough one to fathom. It will be interesting to see if Nolan can conceive a great finish because even he admitted "They're aren't many good third acts." That's saying it lightly. The best third act available is THE RETURN OF THE KING and even that movie had it’s issues(the ending was too long).

I'm hoping Nolan can weave a story that is a remarkable stand alone film and one that ends the trilogy but leaves me wanting more at the same time.

Problem is. That may be asking a little much.

Do you think?

One thing that you can expect is Bane beating Batman to a bloody pulp.

In the teaser you see Batman's confrontation in the RAIN (NOT SNOW)with the main villain. The teaser showed Batman wobbling struggling to regain his fighting form. As the villain approaches causally and perhaps methodically, before obliterating his foe. You can see what looks like a shooter off in the background aiming at the heroes backside as well... Scary!!

This means he got caught in a situation where he was betrayed or anticipated. Either way he was not prepared here at what he is ultimately facing.

In the prologue you can see Bane carrying batman's broken mask. IN THE RAIN.This confirms the end of that fight.

Then in the second trailer you see Bruce In what looks like a "captured state". Then there looks like some kind of break out from a para-trooping invasion force of some kind.

The question is are they descending in to spring Bruce or does Bruce escape on his own?

Going back to the first teaser you see Bruce in that same prison doing push ups(cue rocky 3's eye of the tiger here).

Then there is the scene in the trailer that looks like an all out eruption between the police and the villains that has reached some sort of apex. From what I've heard. Tom Hardy said he was to walk through the mob IN THE SNOW snapping necks like chickens. This sounds like one of those gladiatorial fight sequences where the hero meets the villain in the middle of the battle field as they work their way towards each other.

The question is which sequence happens first. If the first one happens last than the Dark knight gets his back snapped before the end credits. If the latter. Than The dark knight and the villain bane engage in a heavy weight super-brawl at the end.

As to wither or not the hero should expire at the end of DKR.

killing off the hero is a bad move. As a writer myself i view killing the hero as a last resort when you have virtually no other alternative.

Think about how the action classic DIE HARD (the gold standard) would have been remembered if Hans had got off one last shot killing McClain before he (Hans)fell to his death versus what we actually got.

The difference is one movie makes you not want to take the journey a second time through darkness knowing the ending is a bullet between the eyebrows.

The other movie leaves you exhilarated. Ready to jump back in line to see it again immediately. When McClain uses his last two bullets and executes two perfect shots in under 1.5 seconds under duress and out of time...

I was sold. I knew i had just seen the greatest of all action thrillers.

Word to the wise future writers... Killing off the hero should never be considered first. Your hero should be smart enough to think his way out of "any" problem.

He doesn't have to walk on water but he shouldn't be eaten by flying monkeys with the sign "THE END... GO F*CK YOURSELVES" flashing across the screen a second later either.

Our heroes should not only win but be smarter than who we are. They should be able to rise above any situation without having to be reduced to realism for the sake of being a slave to authenticity.

Heroes in films should be human yet extraordinary.

We go to the movies to escape. To know our heroes can at least win become a legend and live to enjoy it(as long as it is handled with taste). Granted that escape is in the realm of possibility and not too cartoony(yeah i'm looking at you Michael Bay). But escape nonetheless.
