TDKR: Negative Reviews Angrily Slammed By Fans

Much like with The Avengers a while back, fans who have seen the few negative reviews for Chris Nolan's final Bat-flick have retaliated...very harshly. Read on after the jump for some snippets of what was said.

A couple of spoiler-free yet very opinionated reviews of The Dark Knight Rises have hit, and not every one of them is positive of course. Certain fans however, furiously responded to these few negative reviews that offered a side of things they obviously didn't want to hear..and they haven't even seen the movie for themselves yet!

Christy Lemire, of the Associated Press, gave the movie two stars, mildly noting that it felt like a “letdown” from an “exceptional, visionary” filmmaker like Christopher Nolan. That brought 495 comments at last count, of which “I hope you die” was one of the most printable.

Marshall Fine, who reviews for the Star and his own website, Hollywood & Fine, also didn’t like the film. No surprise there (he wasn’t a fan of “The Dark Knight” either) but his review – which compared the movie to a bad “Transformers” sequel -- brought 852 comments, and so many slams to his own site it briefly shut it down. (Rotten Tomatoes then removed the link.)

Obviously some people aren't so tolerant of other's opinions these days. Personally, I could care less what someone thinks of a film that I like or am interested in seeing. I'm going to see it regardless, but that doesn't mean I would shoot threats and insults just because a film I like gets a bad review. We'll just see how the things pan out once TDKR is released. Just a few more days left...

The Dark Knight Rises is directed by Christopher Nolan(The Prestige, Inception) and stars Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Tom Hardy, and Anne Hathaway. The film will be unleashed upon audiences on the 20th of this month.

The world of the internet makes for many anonymous threats. People are much too pussy to actually make those threats in person.

If it has Marvel Studios' name on it or is made by Nolan, DO NOT speak ill of it. Fans are willing to accept the 3/5 or 7/10 rating. But the second you give it 2/5 or 6/10... shit hits the fan.

Quite honestly, as long as TDKR is better than Batman Begins (an awesome film as well), that's fine with me. Simply because it's the conclusion doesn't mean it has to be even bigger.

IF TDKR is even SLIGHTLY as good as TDK, I'm satisfied.

With that being said, there are many times I wake up and want to watch either TDK or Begins. And most often than not, I choose Begins. Why? Because it's actually a fun comic book movie just with serious tones. TDK, on the other hand, drains me mentally and emotionally. I have to plan my day out before watching that movie. And when I'm done watching, I find I don't watch it again for another 3-4 months. Batman Begins I can watch ANY DAY.

From what I've seen of the clips from TDKR, Nolan is bringing some comedy into the film and playing a lot of the more "comic-booky" notes he did in Begins. TDKR looks to be the perfect blend of what made Begins great and TDK fantastic.

Eh, like so many other things these day, way too many people somehow tie their own self worth into contests they create. There are people who literally *need* The Dark Knight Rises to be deemed unquestionably superior to the Avengers in order to avoid some kind of depression state.

Everything is a vehement us vs. them argument to some people, and the idea that people can disagree with you and still be perfectly nice and wonderful to know is an alien thought when they're caught up in it all.

I am going to state the same thing I did when the Avengers got bad a few bad reviews: people take critics waaaaay too serious and no one should be personally insulted for expressing their opinion no matter how stupid, ill-formed, or unfair it may be.
maxxgone
maxxgone - 7/16/2012, 7:56 PM
here's the problem: there are people who intentionally write poor reviews and antagonize the fans of these films. they know what they are doing when they troll around, and therefore i say [frick] em - let their sites crash. they are getting all the attention they want, so mission accomplished.

as for those who truly dislike the films...well there's no accounting for good taste :)
ArtisticErotic
ArtisticErotic - 7/16/2012, 7:57 PM
Well at least the actors in the movie are not getting pissy about it, at least not yet. Sam Jackson got really butthurt cause some critic gave Avengers an average score.

If you are a movie star or directo you have to expect negative reviews, I don't think any movie in history has an 100% score anywhere. Movies are made by people and people are not perfect therefore films will have flaws and shortcomings no matter how great they are.

@ TheWonderer
Well, considering that a lot of the comments are saying that these critics don't "Get Nolan's vision or his genius" I'd say the majority of these are Nolanites.
And how do you know if this is a good film? Have you seen it?
No. Reviews are opinionated, and I gurantee a lot of these review scores will be inflated because of:
A) It's the sequel to The Dark Knight
AND
B) It's the final movie of the trilogy
You sure didn't mind trash talking The Amazing Spider-Man, but you seem to be convinced this movie will be good without having even seeing it yourself.

I remember when a lot of misogynistic assholes here started calling the female reviewer who trashed the Avengers a "bitch, "[foo foo]", etc. They, in all their 12 year old humor, thought it was funny to use a woman's gender as a point of attack because she didn't care for the film. And people wonder why geeks get a rep for being adolescent losers who have zero understanding of the opposite sex.

Tastes are subjective, there are no bad or good ones.
Because everyone likes at least one thing that is often considered "bad" or "average".
You sound like an elitist.
santoanderson
santoanderson - 7/16/2012, 8:02 PM
They're in the minority. TDK only got a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, so it was to be expected that this wouldn't get %100. Even if it was a perfect film, there would still be contrarians (COUGH -- Armond White) to downvote it. Ignore the critics if you aren't happy with their reviews.
