Robin Reference In THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Trailer Was Extra's Doing Not Nolan's

Since The Dark Knight Rises trailer leaked a lot has been made of the Robin symbol in one of the signs for the football game sequence. According to sources this was just a clever fan and not Christopher Nolan paying homage to The Boy Wonder.

We have all seen it now, the infamous line of poster from The Dark Knight Rises trailer that reads Rogues with the R made to look like the symbol for Batman's trusty side kick Robin. A lot of different ideas have surfaced on why it is in the movie to begin with. Some thought it was just a playful nod to the character done by Nolan and company, others thought it had more literal implications such as The Boy Wonder actually making an appearance in the film. Now, according to Empire, the sign was made by an extra. On the shoot that day extras were required to bring their own props and costumes so it is not a surprise that someone was able to sneak this in.

From Empire

The day this scene was shot, there were 10,000 extras there at Heinz Field. Most of them brought their own props and costumes, so clearly one guy has been smart and, when drawing the 'R' for the 'Rogues' signs (for the Rogues are Gotham's team), he's drawn it in the style of a Robin logo, off his own back. So this is no more a 'clue' that Robin will be in the film than the presence of the Batman logo on a door during Following was a 'clue' that Nolan would one day make a Batman movie.

With Nolan stating that Robin would have nothing to do with his interpretation of Batman this does not come as a surprise. Are any of you disappointed that the reference was done by an extra and not by Nolan and company? Sound off you thoughts in the comment boxes below.

The Dark Knight Rises stars Christian Bale, Garly Oldman, Michael Caine, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Morgan Freeman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard and will be released on July 20, 2012.
