Over the weekend, we found out that several actresses (including Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mary Elizabeth Winsteada and Justina Machado) were in the mix to join Margot Robbie in the upcoming Birds of Prey movie, and now Warner Bros. has announced an official release date.

Birds of Prey - which may not actually end up being the film's final title - is set to hit theaters on February 7, 2020.

Apparently, the studio originally had February 14 in mind for the DC team-up flick, but the recent announcement that James Bond 25 would be releasing on that date seems to have persuaded them to move it up a week.

Specific plot details are still under wraps, but it has been confirmed that the movie will see Harley Quinn teaming with Huntress, Black Canary and Renee Montoya to take on the villainous Black Mask. Cassie Cain is also expected to feature in some capacity.

@Spock0Clock - Agreed, but I do occasionally like Mary Elizabeth Winsteada, so there's that.

@MosquitoFarmer - And I'm a big Robbie fan, so it's not like there's nothing of value here. I'm just frustrated/concerned/exhausted with this whole endeavor.

The history of the DCEU just feels like a comedy sketch where a guy trips on the top step of a flight of stairs, and as he tumbles he sometimes looks like he's recovered, only to stumble again down another flight. I just don't think they can set this ship right without a full unapologetic reboot (which it seems like they're mostly doing). But every character and casting choice and continuity element that lingers from 2016 will just hang like an albatross from the necks of anything that comes after.

I'm thinking about it now and it really was 2016. The release of Dawn of Justice, which hammered down this suicidal tone. The cameos of Leaguers that have felt like obligations ever since. The rushed production of Justice League filming. Suicide Squad and all of its missteps. "[frick] Marvel". All of it came to a head in 2016.

There must have been something in the water in 2016 that made people blithering dumbasses incapable of making basic sound decisions. And 2017 and 2018 have just been living with those grievous mistakes and trying to retroactively contain them.

@Spock0Clock - I was just being cheeky about the misspelling of her last name, but I do agree with you on all of that, even though I've enjoyed all of the DCEU movies thus far. (Whether they're good or bad is another conversation.)

A week before Bond sounds tough. But I’m sure the actual Birds of Prey could handle it. This group though? We’ll see...

I personally hope they stick with the title "Birds of Prey".

@L0RDbuckethead - On the one hand, with the line-up they're talking about? The Birds of Prey title doesn't make much sense. Especially if its Harley-centric. On the other hand I dread to think what else they might call it if they change it.

@OptionFour - "Harley Quinn and the Birds of Prey" is what they will call it.
