BLACK PANTHER: Here's My Honest Overall Review Of The Movie!
While Black Panther manages to shine in a lot of ways, the movie lacks in other elements and unfortunately its flaws cause overall issues for the story. Come read my honest review.

There were a lot of great aspects about Black Panther that made it an enjoyable movie to watch. Whether it was the insightful performances by either Michael B. Jordan or Chadwick Boseman, or perhaps the extremely well-choreographed action sequences, the movie manages to deliver in a lot of ways. Unfortunately where it most lacks is through its story. While the story isn't horrible, it comes off quite lacking and predictable. So here's my overall review on Black Panther.
Look in terms of story I didn't hate it but it was only good enough to get me through the entire movie. There was nothing really surprising or exciting here especially when T'Challa (Black Panther) was supposedly "dead". I mean I don't think anyone for a second believed he was dead instead I felt like it was ridiculous. Also, the whole revenge story with Killmonger was honestly cliche and predictable, it's been overused in many superhero stories for villains and Black Panther just didn't add anything new here. T'Challa rising as King of Wakanda felt quite forced, I would've liked to have seen T'Challa doubt himself a little more and finally rising to the occasion and becoming the leader that Wakanda could proudly look up to. I will say that I did enjoy the way they handled the death of Killmonger's father and how that transformed Killmonger to the villain he eventually becomes. Overall the story was mediocre at best here and it only just got me through the movie. A lot of cliche and predictability took away from the story and for me ruined any part of the movie that was meant to be portrayed as a surprise.
Typically I never have a specific section in my reviews for music but I think this time it's important that I do. The music was wonderful and flowed really well with the tone of the movie especially as the movie and music inherit and take advantage of the Wakandan tradition which is located in Africa. At times I thought the music sounded a little unusual but in a very good way particularly because the music felt very different to what we hear in most superhero movies or any movie in general. Ultimately the music was profound throughout the entire movie, especially when T'Challa was taking his place as leader of Wakanda. Each song in the background fit perfectly and I never thought it was forced into any scene just to add an African/Wakandan feel. So in saying that I really praise anyone from the music department and anyone who worked to choose or compose the music used because it was very well done.
Black offers some of the best action sequences in any MCU
movie. Personally my favorite fight sequence was the one in the bar which leads to the chase with Black Panther going after Klaue, it was just really exciting and very well executed. Another fight scene that I thought was spectacular was the first fight between Black Panther and Killmonger. However, I do have to express my disappointment in the final act fight between Black Panther and Killmonger, it was just lacking and the CGI in that scene was a little off. It's a shame especially because it was the final fight between the two and I was expecting something more. I also thought that involving the train in that scene also killed some of the hype with Black Panther and Killmonger having to stop their fighting, I know that gave them a chance to exchange words but I still thought that it was unnecessary to add the train. Nevertheless, the battle between the tribes was great although the CGI with the rhinos was off at certain times. Overall the fighting sequences were quite fast paced and exceeded the level of intensity that this movie needed especially as it took a more serious approach unlike most MCU movies.
The acting in this movie was exceptional whether it was Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, Michael B. Jordan as Killmonger or my personal favorite from the "side" characters, Letitia Wright who plays Shuri, also known as the younger sister of T'Challa. Letitia Wright impressively sold the part of being the younger sister to Black Panther but also an expert in technological advances, in the way she spoke, joked or even fought, Shuri was a great addition to Black Panther and we have Letitia Wright to thank for that. Chadwick Boseman was great as Black Panther, unfortunately I have a bit of gripe with T'Challa, not Black Panther though. For me I enjoyed when T'Challa was in the BP costume but out of it, I felt his character was stale and boring at times even. I just felt like T'Challa was rather boring but Chadwick Boseman portrayed the hero part very well. Michael B. Jordan as Killmonger was very convincing and quickly became one of the few villains I love from the MCU. The acting through every other actor was really great overall with slightly small issues.
The CGI and cinematography presented to us in Black Panther were amazing to say the least and I truly believe the cinematography was perhaps the very best in any MCU movie. From the farmlands, the icy mountains, the jungle or even just the city, Black Panther is able to bring us a personal feel into the world of Wakanda through the beautiful cinematography. Each shot of Wakanda brought out so many colors and effects which greatly impacted the quality of the movie in a good way. The CGI in some scenes was a little off I won't lie but almost every scene involving CGI was really good. The final act had a weird shot as well with Killmonger and Black Panther looking at a sunset and I couldn't help but realize that the CGI was quite off in that scene and therefore I was a little put off from the scene overall which is a shame as it was an emotional one. Other than that though I think the CGI worked really well and even better the cinematography.
My last point will be on the villain of the movie and his overall arc. Look I thought Michael B. Jordan's performance of Killmonger was outstanding as he really gave a personal feel to the character and allowed the audience to sympathize with him which is great. However, the story of Killmonger was average at best and let me explain why. The whole revenge story in superhero movies has been used so many times and we see it planted in many movies and comic-book stories. Some examples are even from MCU movies, you have Loki, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch who wanted revenge on Tony Stark, Vulture, and even Hela wanted revenge. Unfortunately almost anything after the first 30-45 minutes of Black Panther became easily predictable especially as the villain's motivations were basically cliche and so the entire plot of the movie became easily predictable. However, while the story of Killmonger wasn't the best, the quality of the character and performance by Michael B. Jordan really boosted this movie up for me. Although I complained about the usage of the train in the last fight scene, I did like when Black Panther and Killmonger had a moment to exchange words because it allowed the audience to see the differences between these two characters and who they are as individuals, but I just feel that putting a train in the fight was unnecessary.
Look overall I thought this was an enjoyable movie to watch but I just didn't love it as much as I thought I would especially with all the hype following Black Panther. While the movie shines in many aspects, the main chunk of any movie comes from its story and unfortunately I just didn't think the story was anything special or particularly exciting. I can't and won't discredit all the other things the movie does well but I still didn't feel like it lived up to the hype and that's why I gave it a 6.5/10. If you disagree that's okay, let's talk down in the comments but please keep it respectful.
