In pre-pandemic times, it was commonplace for Marvel Studios movies to be released earlier in the UK. Sometimes that could be up to two weeks before the U.S. (much to the chagrin of many fans), and it seems that tradition will continue with Black Widow next month.
However, rather than coming a whole two weeks early, the movie will instead arrive in theaters there on July 7. That's only two days, but Disney is keeping the "Premier Access" date on its streaming service the same for everybody. We have to believe that's to try and combat piracy.
This does mean a detailed breakdown of the plot is likely to arrive online a good 48 hours before Black Widow's U.S. release, so you may want to stay offline if you're hoping to go in fresh!
Marvel Studios has also shared a new behind-the-scenes photo from the movie:
"In Marvel Studios' Black Widow, Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises," reads the movie's synopsis. "Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger."
In the movie, Scarlett Johansson reprises her role as Natasha/Black Widow, Florence Pugh stars as Yelena, David Harbour portrays Alexei/The Red Guardian, and Rachel Weisz is Melina. Black Widow is directed by Cate Shortland and produced by Kevin Feige; Black Widow - the first big screen story in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe - arrives on July 9th both in theaters and on Disney+.
