Clark Gregg Says "It Would Be Tragic" If Marvel Doesn't Make A BLACK WIDOW Film

In 2010, Kevin Feige said that a Black Widow film was in development, however after Marvel released their release calendar, that was not the case. Clark Gregg, in a recent interview with Digital Spy, revealed that he doesn't think Marvel should waste the hero. Check it out!

In a recent interview with Digital Spy, Agents of Shield star Clark Gregg revealed that he thinks Marvel Studios shouldn't waste a great character like Black Widow. "Black Widow has been around from day one of this and is portrayed with this kind of heavy-hearted ferocity by Scarlett Johansson - who I think is as good as any actor working today." He then adds that he thinks it would be tragic if she wasn't given the spotlight at some point. "It seems like it would be tragic, it would be a waste, if that character wasn't given the spotlight in the way that some of the other characters have been. If I know Marvel, they won't let that happen, because she's too valuable an asset."

Later in the interview, Gregg expressed that he's proud that they have strong female characters on Agents of Shield. "Y'know, I have a 13-year-old daughter and one of the things I'm proudest about with our show is that there are very strong, very intelligent women who are just as responsible for SHIELD not being exterminated as Phil Coulson - and that's not lost on my daughter and her friends." What do you think? Yeah, we seriously wouldn't be a loss. I find it criminal how under used Hawkeye has been and yet everyone jumps on Black Widow for being the under used character.

It would be tragic if they did.

@WakandasSould

That sounds like a way better idea. I don't think these characters (at least how they're portrayed in the MCU) can hold an entire film on their own but as a team? That would be excellent.

Just too bad Black Widow is bland and boring as flark.
Given a movie it might make her interesting, finally, and no matter how the Russos may try too to make her a decent character, but otherwise she's not all too interesting.
In my opinion at least.

I love Black Widow, and lord knows I love Scarlett Johannson. But not every character needs a damn solo movie. Black Widow works great as a supporting character

We need a a damn prequel movie. Something that the MCU hasn't done yet. Wanna keep things fresh don't you?

What WakandaSoul said! No Black Widow movie, but a SHIELD movie where she's front and centre with other characters would be awesome.

Black Widow would work FAR better within a S.H.I.E.L.D. prelude series or even a modern series as well. Her Hawkeye, Mockingbird and Fury would all be great to see on screen together. But I know that they won't go the route of having the movie stars appear on tv and etc. I just want them to at LEAST explain if Fury has been using the de-aging serum that has kept him a neutral after all these years. They might just use that technique to replace him with a younger actor in the near future.

The idea of a movie centered on Fury, Widow, Hawkeye, and other Shield characters does sound pretty great though. I'd totally get on board for that

Personally, I would love to see a solo Black Widow movie. The only way it could see it working though, is if they release it on Netflix.

A Black Widow movie needs to be grounded, dark, and gritty. I'm talking more along the lines of Daredevil and Jessica Jones. There is no way Disney would be on board with a Marvel movie like that in theaters. I wouldn't want see them do a watered down Black Widow movie either.

It needs to feel like a standalone movie: No Avengers cameos, no S.H.I.E.L.D. characters. It needs to be Natasha completely on her own.

I personally hope Disney doesn't waste a movie on her. I'd prefer a Ms Marvel movie to happen after Captain Marvel comes out, so if people want a female film, Ms Marvel should fill that void.

1) I can't give a shit about anything Clark Gregg has to say.

2) Kevin Fiege has said many times in the past that the movies they make and the characters they choose to use are to push the MCU forward. Black Widow only brings them backwards (because most of her interesting stuff is her past) and doesn't contribute to the overall MCU. It's not sexism and it's not hard to understand. I don't know why so many SJW's are campaigning about this when it's very simple.

Seriously all the characters that need a solo movie... Black Widow is NOT one of them... Hawkeye neither for that matter.

She works better as a supporting character IMO.

All I want from Marvel Studios is a Hawkeye film based off of Fraction's run.

I won't be getting a solo Hulk film.
Good with Daredevil's on Netflix.
And we got Spider-Man.

I ask nothing more from them.

I would wait on a Black Widow film after we see what Waid and Sammne do together on the comic.

Make a movie while ScarJo is still young. She'd probably be a fine MILF too though...

They should have made a BW movie a long time ago!!!!!

Though I think that opportunity has slipped away!

Marvel doesn't seem to want to make $80M movies that gross $350M. And that's what a Black Widow movie would be. They want two or three event movies a year that get everyone talking about "Marvel has done it again! Perfect #1 Box Office Record."

And in their defense, it's hard to find a whole lot of space in the market and schedule for such movies. I'd like to see it, but I'd like to see a lot of things that probably won't happen.

And to people complaining about ScarJo's casting... I understand the opinion, but I'm actually fully on board now. She is not the comic book "Emma Peel" kind of slinky Bond-girl superspy that only ever existed in movies to begin with. But she's definitely a really really good character who embodies the kind social, cultural, philosophical flexibility that a real superspy would have. She is the American girl-next-door personified, just like a perfect Soviet spy would be.

And to people who wanted Emily Blunt instead...
