BLACK ADAM Star Dwayne Johnson Responds To BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER Topping His Movie's Box Office Total BLACK ADAM Star Dwayne Johnson Responds To BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER Topping His Movie's Box Office Total

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has hit back at a recent IGN post on Twitter that pointed out Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has earned considerably more than Black Adam at the box office. Read on for details!

None of us can deny that Dwayne Johnson is a great guy; you need only take a quick look at his social media channels for proof of that. However, the Hollywood A-Lister is also still a pro wrestler at heart, and he knows both how to make fans believe what he wants them to and how to sell the projects he works on as, perhaps, bigger hits than they really are.

That's definitely been the case with Black Adam. The movie has received mostly negative reviews from critics and, while it marked one of the best openings of Johnson's career, it's on track to make roughly the same as Shazam!, a movie that cost half as much to produce. Despite that, it's often been touted as a huge win for the DC brand online.

While not always fair, comparing the box office totals of similar movies is an inevitability among fans and analysts alike. It's no wonder then that we've seen many headlines pointing out that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever managed to earn more in a single weekend than Black Adam has in its entire theatrical run since being released last month.

Now, in a somewhat uncharacteristic social media post from The Rock, he recently took to Twitter to respond to a Tweet from IGN comparing the performances of both movies.

Starting by suggesting they may be biased, the actor would go on to say that there's no competition between Black Adam and Black Panther, primarily because the latter is an established global brand. We can't argue that point, though it might be a stretch to say no one had heard of Black Adam and the Justice Society of America a year ago.

Ultimately, there are a number of reasons why Black Adam underperformed, but Black Panther was also a relatively unknown character prior to his 2018 movie. Despite a cameo in Captain America: Civil War prior to that solo outing, the blockbuster featured no one with the same star power as Johnson and earned over $1 billion and an Oscar nomination.

So, is it still unfair to compare the two franchises? We'll let you decide.

Both Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Black Adam are now playing in theaters.

I haven't seen Black Adam yet, but I've heard its visually fun & good action but lacking in the writing department....If that's true that's also at least something Black Adam & WF have in common great visuals but bad writing.

Well the first Black Panther also did better at this point in it's run

@dracula - Black Panther was built on a 10-year-old impeccably-solid foundation that is the MCU at the time, especially after having an acclaimed introduction in Civil War. Audience demand was also at its peak. Plus, it was inherently imbued with significant cultural importance. It needed to be good -undoubtedly- to succeed as much as it did, and it is good, but it didn't need to be great, as a significant portion of the heavy lifting was done before its release. Thor L&T made 760.9 million, and it's regarded by many as the least good of the bunch. Some might even consider it less good than Black Adam, but it had the benefit of being the latest entry in a long successful series, and that's what matters most in this comparison, I think.

@Shmokey20 - yeah there was no actual L, in the release of this movie.

Hugely entertaining film. Much better than the last serval disappointments that Marvel has released. I like Marvel and DC, and Marvel has been disappointing me left and right lately. Black Adam was better than I expected.

@TheHumanSpider2 - They obviously don't. They have proven that no matter what the movie makes at the Box office, if 2 random people on a comicbook movie websites comment section enjoyed they movie, The Rock should see this as a win....makes total sense.

Saw Wakanda Forever the other night

not as good as the first movie but good, best phase 4 film for sure.

Although got to say wasn't really getting into it until Shuri and Riri were taken to Namor's city.

Riri Williams was kind of ehh and considering what happens after she is found, feels like she was a studio mandated character and they could have told mostly the same story without her.

Final act was much better than the first film's

namor kicked ass

When did Shuri learn to fight

@dracula - shuri fought in bp1 and was at the 'battle royal' in avengers

@dracula - Ancestral Plane coupled with the Heart Shaped Herb probably gives the Panther innate fighting ability. That's what I always saw it as.

@dracula - She was an heir to the throne. She was probably trained by the Dora Milaje since birth or something. How do you think T'Challa knows how to fight?
dracula
dracula - 11/21/2022, 11:06 AM
@ObserverIO - id figure T'Challa was trained in preparation for him eventually becoming king and black panther(which he already was in his first appearance)

Not impossible for her to have received training, and I guess with the time after T'challa's death there was time for it, but honestly before taking the herb, she didn't show fighting skills, in this or any of her previous appearances.

With T'Challa they didnt just show him as a skilled fighter when he was black panther, we saw what he could do when he faced M'baku

@dracula - "I'd figure T'Challa was trained in preparation for him eventually becoming king and black panther(which he already was in his first appearance)"

Just replace the word T'Challa with Shuri (and obviously change the pronouns) and you've got your answer. Just because we never saw her fight, doesn't mean she couldn't fight. She obviously prefers tech.

Batman uses tech a lot too, but he was also trained by ninjas.

Like other people on social media have said, he’s been touting this movie as DC’s next coming for years, the savior, the hierarchy will change !! But it flops and now they’re babies needing to grow against a global brand ? Lol

I think it got to him that his movie flopped, he didn’t have to comment at all, he’s a busy man, but I guess he had to say something lol
