DC's film universe is entering a new era. With the release of films like Shazam!, Birds of Prey, and, most recently, Black Adam, the DCEU seems to be in a different creative place than it was when it kicked off with Man of Steel, helmed by Zack Snyder. Though the director's vision for the DC Universe ended with Zack Snyder's Justice League, some fans on social media have consistently clamored for his return to the franchise.

Such desire has resulted in multiple instances of the #RestoreTheSnyderVerse movement trending on Twitter. Now, another hashtag has trended following the release of Black Adam: #BringBackZackSnyder. Dwayne Johnson's superhero film brough back Henry Cavill's Superman for a post-credits scene cameo.

The actor's much-anticipated comeback seems to have encouraged multiple users to ask for Zack Snyder to once again steer Warner Bros.' superhero franchise:

As has been the case with hashtags related to Zack Snyder's DC films throughout the past two years, this latest movement will probably not lead to a change in the DCEU. Though the amount of support stemming from fans seems to be plentiful, a trending hashtag is likely no longer enough to dictate the future of a movie franchise—especially when it comes to Warner Bros.

Zack Snyder's Justice League was made following a persistent #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement. However, both the movie's viewership numbers and performance for HBO Max's subscriber base were reported to have been somewhat underwhelming. Then, an August 2022 report from Variety stated that executives at Warner Bros. regretted the decision to have greenlit Snyder's Justice League. According to the trade:

"Rather than quiet the unceasing online campaigning to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut, the four-hour HBO Max feature only further entrenched the vocal and extremely online 'Snyderverse' fanbase in opposition to the leadership at the studio in general and at DC in particular."

It's somewhat understandable that Henry Cavill's appearance in Black Adam would theoretically give some the idea that Warner Bros. is at least considering bringing back Snyder's DC vision. However, Superman's role in the film seems to have been more specifically about the character as played by Cavill, and is thus likely not signaling Snyder's DCEU return.

Superman's role in the DCEU is now seemingly closely tied to Black Adam's. During an interview with CinemaBlend, Dwayne Johnson confirmed there was a plan was to make a Black Adam/Superman movie down the line. Taking that into consideration, Cavill's Superman appears to be part of the creative direction that DC's shared film universe has been going in for the past few years.

Black Adam makes only 60 million opening weekend and they act as if it's impressive.

Not watching any new Snyder DC movies and letting those 73.9k people do the heavy box office lifting >>>

Gotta kill this shit one way or another

@ShimmyShimmyYA -

And I bet some of those 73 thousand people are bots Snyder bought from an agency 💁

@ShimmyShimmyYA - they should have done a full reboot right after the mess that was BVS

@AmazingFILMporg - right. Let’s be generous and say

1) every tweet is 1 person no multiple tweets from 1 account

2) generously only 10% are bots so 66,510 people

Avg ticket price $20 * 66510 people = $1,330,200

They’re gonna be unhappy

@Taonrey - that would take common sense they lack.

WB did what corporate execs always do take the wrong lesson

I always say feige has no plan he has an outline of things he would like to see but if that shit doesn’t fit it doesn’t get filmed

WB just saw marvel announce a bunch of movies and money roll in not thinking the process through

How about they offer to fund the film? If there's no financial risk Discovery will be happy to do it. Actions speak louder than words people.

@Itwasme - I don't know if there is a legal way for them to do that on their own. "Kickstart campaign with a 200 million dollar goal to form a production company with the intent of negotiating a financing deal with WB/Disco/Snyder"?

Without WB/Discovery explicitly endorsing that kind of crowdfunding effort (and Snyder aboard already), it probably would get taken down from any of the big crowdfunding sites because the campaign starters can't make any assurances they can deliver. And WB/Disco's execs would likely be skittish of being involved in something like that (what happens if the campaign tops out at 75 million and Snyder goes on Vero to egg them on by saying "he'll do it for free", and then the whole Snytterverse hounds the studio and actors to do it pro bono and make a lower-budget movie with the raised funds, or that the studio should make up the difference, or that they extend the deadline indefinitely... or something else). It's just asking to make what is already a uncontrolled PR nuisance into an even bigger one.

If Snyder himself (or someone with credibility and good lawyers) basically set up a standalone mechanism to donate money straight to his own production company into a big "just trust me" fund, then I could see it happening. It may not even immediately devolve into grift and fraud (but it might). But I don't see the Snyderfans themselves as being capable of doing this.

"it probably would get taken down from any of the big crowdfunding sites"

At least, I hope these sites are responsible enough to do that. I don't follow the periodic Kickstarter scandals, so I can't say for sure how stringent their standards are.

@Itwasme - you really think that less than 20k fans are gonna be able to fund 2 JL sequels?
Itwasme
Itwasme - 10/23/2022, 5:07 AM
@Spock0Clock - they would need to raise it privately by creating a corp and issuing shares. Then they'd approach WB as a financing partner. The how isn't really that difficult.
Itwasme
Itwasme - 10/23/2022, 5:12 AM
@BigPhilbowski - of course not, which is the entire point. It's easy to whine and complain when it doesn't cost the person complaining anything.
Origame
Origame - 10/23/2022, 8:06 AM
@Itwasme - they offered to do that and you guys criticized them for that too.
Itwasme
Itwasme - 10/23/2022, 10:25 AM
@Origame - I definitely would not criticize them for that. Out of curiosity, when was this?
Origame
Origame - 10/23/2022, 11:43 AM
@Itwasme - it was during the Snyder cut hash tag. They offered to finance it, and they were called pathetic here for doing so.
Itwasme
Itwasme - 10/23/2022, 12:04 PM
@Origame - I'd love to see the post/offer. Was this before they knew it was $70mm?
Spock0Clock
Spock0Clock - 10/23/2022, 1:10 PM
@Itwasme - "They" would have to be some specific leadership, though. Someone with authority and trust among the group that they could then fundraise with. The decentralized nature of the movement means I don't think there is a specific person outside of Snyder who can make the effective pitch to the fans to give him money for the project. (I could be wrong about that, though, because I don't follow them closely.)
Origame
Origame - 10/23/2022, 4:42 PM
@Itwasme - it was early on but they were talking of raising money for the film. Then when it was announced and the studio didn't want to take the money they donated it to suicide prevention.
BigPhilbowski
BigPhilbowski - 10/24/2022, 6:41 AM
@Origame - because its pathetic to think that such a small group would be able to fund it unless they're all donating hundreds of thousands each. People laughed at them for suggesting such a pathetic and unrealistic idea
Origame
Origame - 10/24/2022, 6:49 AM
@BigPhilbowski - it's really not. They were able to make millions for finishing it. Keep in mind this was to finish the film. Not the added scenes like with joker.

The only reason it was "laughable" is because people like you were under the impression it didn't exist.
BigPhilbowski
BigPhilbowski - 10/24/2022, 6:59 AM
@Origame - no it's entirely laughable to think they could have raised 70m+
BigPhilbowski
BigPhilbowski - 10/24/2022, 7:00 AM
@Origame - and it didn't exist as he claimed it did. There was no finished movie, that's why it needed 70m to be finished.
Origame
Origame - 10/24/2022, 8:03 AM
@BigPhilbowski - thats only because of reshoots and wanting to take advantage of their last chance to tell the story they wanted to tell. Just having the movie as it was originally invisioned the few million they collected would've been plenty.
