Zack Snyder Reveals His Gritty Teen Titans In TEEN TITANS GO!, Prompting #RestoreTheSnyderVerse Resurgence

The 365th episode of Teen Titans Go! featured an appearance from Batman v Superman director Zack Snyder, who put his dark and gritty spin on the Titans.

Zack Snyder has put his own gritty spin on the Teen Titans. It was announced in July that the Man of Steel and Batman v Superman director would be featured on Teen Titans Go! as himself. Now, the unexpected crossover has arrived. Teen Titans Go! recently reached its milestone 365th episode in its seventh season, appropriately titled "365!"

"365!" sees the young team of heroes go to the Warner Bros. lot looking for a director for their landmark episode. There, they come across Zack Snyder, who proceeds to give them a makeover, depicting Robin, Raven, Starfire, Cyborg and Beast Boy in a dark and gritty animation style.

The Titans face Darkseid and the forces of Apokolips in a scene reminiscent of Justice League's flashback battle between the villain and humankind's united forces. Clips from the sequence have been shared on Twitter, which also show Snyder poking fun at himself and his signature visual flair.

The animation is somewhat reminiscent of Young Justice's and the style used in different DC Animated Movie Universe projects, such as Justice League vs. Teen Titans. Hilariously enough, though, while the character designs are completely different from those of Teen Titans Go!, the heroes retain their youthful and purposefully overly animated voices.

Aside from that, the episode also featured various callbacks to Snyder's body of work (as shown in the video below). At one point, for example, Robin is shown stopping a flood with his staff just like Aquaman did in Justice League. Another scene showed Starfire helping Robin in slow motion, based on how Flash helped Wonder Woman in the aforementioned film.

#RestoreTheSnyderVerse Lives Again

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Snyder's Teen Titans Go! appearance prompted the #RestoreTheSnyderVerse movement to pop back up on social media. The hashtag began trending once again at the time of the episode's release (via CBR), something that has happened various times since before and after the release of Zack Snyder's Justice League in March 2021:

As for how Snyder's appearance on Teen Titans Go! came to be, there's an interesting story behind it. During an interview with CBR, Beast Boy voice actor Greg Cipes revealed that the director watches the series: "He's a fan of the show, yo."

Teen Titans Go! director Peter Michail elaborated, stating: "We reached out and pitched him the idea. He loved it and was actually a fan [of] the show. It was surprisingly very easy. It was, and he was great! It was an incredible experience, and we're honored to have him as a part of the 'Teen Titans Go!' world, for sure."

Teen Titans Go! is confirmed to be coming back for an eigth season, making it one of DC's longest-running animated series.

@GhostDog - Like jesus, I don't know whats more pathetic: Teen Titans go licking Snyders balls, or Snyder needing his balls licked by Teen Titans Go of all shows. That aside, ypu can tell its not actually made by Zack Snyder because Beast Boy is having fun, and there's enough color to tell his skin is green.

@Itwasme -

Funny how karma works, isn't it? Zack takes a jab at cartoons, and now his cult cling on to them for relevance. They troll their way into getting from the Academy the award for Ezra's cheer moment (my ass), only to now have Ezra be exposed as a self-proclaimed messiah and whatnot.

Gotta love how the universe puts everything in its place.

@DrReedRichards - the karma of the DCEU. It's like the mirror dimension, but moody and dull.

I have to say, I don't particularly have any strong feelings about Mendelson one way or another, but anything that irks Snyder is music to my ears.

Oh look. The primary person responsible for the DCEU’s failure!
colonel179
colonel179 - 9/20/2022, 12:28 AM
@mountainman - The primary reason of DCEU failure is the executives who wanted to copy MCU. They still try to copy it and fail. The few projects that are good still has Snyder’s inspiration. They can’t get rid of it because people liked it specially after Justice League. The DCEU would have been fine if they let Zack do his job. After all, by this time that they are trying to fix all this messC they would already be able to reset everything organically and people would be all over it even more so than the MCU.

@colonel179 - Huh? Aquaman is so far removed from Snyder's inspiration it has the love interest speaking a basically different accent, along with the movie having a different tone, different coloring, different costuming. That did over a billion.

The only similarity is the actors. And that it has in common with Whedon's Cut, as well.

Shazam is liked by some and isn't Snyder inspired in really any legit meaningful capacity.

Joker made over a billion dollars and is as far removed from Snyder as can be, inspiration wise.

The Batman isn't Snyder connected and has been well liked.

Wonder Woman is the closest to that and even that exceeds all the Snyder movies, purely from writing structure wise, as far as I think. Even WW84, I think captures emotion and investment stronger, in the heroes and villains, like that.

@dagenspear - I cannot entertain the idea that wonder woman 84… is better than Man of steel or Batman versus superman. Honestly, it’s not better than justice league. It’s terrible. Personally, my favorite of those Snyder movies is Batman versus Superman, I realize that the consensus is that it sucks. I don’t fall into that consensus. It seems that the consensus puts Man of steel above it, and I think that is a good movie but that is good. Yeah, don’t listen to me. I’m a wild card, a rebel, Donna. Justice league to me is still better than crap like Jonah hex but very close to that crap, but I put wonder woman 84 on the same level as Jonah hex. It is so bad. The first wonder woman ranks high for me… but sorry guys. I like more about Batman versus superman then I dislike about it. So I think it’s better than wonder woman. You may now disown me and block me. Yes the crap that I didn’t like in that movie is very bad crap. That definitely includes Martha, and also some other crap I can’t even remember. It’s been a while. But the stuff I did like, Cavill versus Affleck, yeah I was highly entertained by that. That’s just how I work, I will even say I’m wrong, seeing as the consensus leans the other way, but I still don’t change my mind. Hope he kills more henchmen on Aquaman, it would be funny if he replaced Mera for all the kissing scenes

@colonel179 - "The few projects that are good still has Snyder’s inspiration. "

Yeah, you can totally see his influence in... Aquaman... and Shazam I guess?

dagenspear - 9/20/2022, 12:19 PM
@TheWalkingCuban - I entertain that idea. I have yet to see any criticisms that leave me with the perception that it's worse written and/or, at least, less engaging, to me, than MOS or BvS or whatever.

I care way more about watching Wonder Woman learn to fly in WW84 than I care about watching Cavill and Affleck punch eachother with little emotional personal weight behind it, to me.

@AmazingFILMporg - I love Cavill as Superman. Its probably my favorite super hero movie (until I watch Batman Begins for the 1000th time). I like Ben as Batman, Russell Crowe owned it as Jor-El. Michael Shannon as Zod was fantastic. Gal won me over as Wonder Woman but I kinda would have liked to see Olga in the role. Jesse played a pretty good Golden Age Lex but probably was not what the fans wanted to see.

@dracula - you actually blame Snyder for the personal lives of two individuals. You don’t see that as being a “I hate Snyder” cultist.
Why don’t you and @AmazingFILMporg talk about the casting of Cavill as Superman. The casting of Affleck as arguably the best Batman. The casting of Mamoa as Aquaman and that went against the grain of everything. The casting of Fisher as Cyborg but let me guess you all don’t like him because he called a known racist a racist? But like I said before, you don’t like Snyder simply because he made a fictional character do something in a movie that you didn’t like.
