BLACK PANTHER 2 Will Not Replace Chadwick Boseman; New Logo & Plot Details Revealed

Black Panther 2 will move forward in the wake of Chadwick Boseman's tragic death, but the role of T'Challa will not be recast.

Fans had been waiting for an official announcement regarding Marvel Studios' plans for the sequel even since we got word of the actor's passing, and Kevin Feige confirmed that the current King of Wakanda will not appear in the movie during today's Disney Inventors Day, while also giving fans a vague idea of what to expect from the sequel's plot.

"I wanted to acknowledge the devastating loss of a dear friend and member of the Marvel Studios family," Feige said during the live stream. "Chadwick Boseman was an immensely talented actor and an inspirational individual who affected all of our lives professionally and personally. His portrayal of T'Challa the Black Panther is iconic and transcends iteration of the character in any other medium from Marvel's past. It's for that reason that we will not recast the character."

Feige didn't get too specific when referencing the story Black Panther 2 will focus on, but he did reveal that the sequel will further explore T'Challa's homeland and some of the supporting characters introduced in the first film.

"However, to honor the legacy that Chad helped us build through his portrayal of the king of Wakanda, we want to continue to explore the world of Wakanda and all of the rich and varied characters introduced in the first film. Writer/director Ryan Coogler is hard at work on the sequel now, and we'll bring the film to you in theaters July 8, 2022."

A trade report recently suggested that Coogler's follow-up would give Shuri (Letitia Wright) a "more substantial" role, but we still don't know for sure if that means she'll suit-up and inherit the mantle of Black Panther.

This is the second most difficult MCU news I've ever had to deal with. I don't even think I can properly express myself about it.

All due respect to Chadwick, but they should have recast. Shuri is not ready and there are plenty of actors who could do it while still honoring what he did.

@dracula - they never said Shuri though

@MyCoolYoung -

It's pretty obvious that Shuri is going to be the new Black Panther. Marvel is setting up the Young Avengers.

@MyCoolYoung - Well who else could do it. M'Baku seems like he works better as a supporting character and there is no way Killmonger is coming back

@dracula - I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying there is a possibility, but also the 2nd film could be her becoming ready for that mantle

@E4Nigma - she's next in line for sure but I don't think it'll be as easy as her just getting it

Yeah, they're going to have set something up for her to earn the Black Panther mantle.

@dracula - Agreed. Really bums me out that we only got one movie with T'chala. He's Black Panther. And as amazing as Chadwick was in the role, I dont feel like he had to become synonymous to it.

@TheMapleSyrup - yeah, if christopher reeves, michael keaton and sean connery can be replaced so can he

@MyCoolYoung - Don't think they would do a black panther movie were the black panther isnt in it till the end. seems like they might rush her development

@dracula - They could simply have him not dead and not on camera. Stories would be about everyone else in Wakanda. But that sort of story telling would be, imo, better suited to a Disney plus series.

@PantherKing - Leia has been played by others in animation, and the character aged with the actress, but if Leia shows up in one of the animated shows she will be recast.

Difference with Paul Walker is that, Brian was completely his character, practically molded around him and he had played the role for over a decade. there has been some talk of having his brother take over actually

Black Panther has been played by many actors in animation and has decades of different stories. All that is now being thrown out, when T'Challa's story had really only begun.

Plus we all know Leia was going to die anyway and at least Walker got an exit, he had been filming and used his brothers to finish it. They have no new footage of Chadwick to do that with.

@JDL - I guess but that would be a wakanda movie, not a black panther movie. Like you said if it was a show maybe that could work
