As Black Panther: Wakanda Forever continues to dominate the box office, the Marvel Studios sequel has now passed The Batman and Minions: The Rise of Gru to become the fourth highest-grossing film of 2022.

With very little in the way of competition (at least until Avatar: The Way of Water next month), Marvel Studios' final Phase 4 theatrical release, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, continues to dominate the box office.

According to the latest update, Ryan Coogler's epic sequel took in $2.21 million on Monday for a domestic total of $369.68M. This means the movie has now passed The Batman and Minions: The Rise of Gru to become the 4th highest-grossing release of 2022 in North America.

Wakanda Forever's next worldwide milestone is $700M, but can it hope to match its predecessor's mighty $1 billion+ global haul? It's difficult to say - especially with James Cameron's sci-fi sequel looming - but a lot of analysts seem to feel somewhere around the $800M - $850M mark is a more realistic outcome.

Check out a new poster featuring Namor (Tenoch Huerta) below.

In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Okoye (Danai Gurira), and the Dora Milaje (including Florence Kasumba), fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death. As the Wakandans strive to embrace their next chapter, the heroes must band together with the help of War Dog Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) and Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) and forge a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda. Introducing Tenoch Huerta as Namor, king of a hidden undersea nation, the film also stars Dominique Thorne, Michaela Coel, Mabel Cadena, and Alex Livanalli.

That little surge over the Thanksgiving weekend earned it $52 million Thursday through Sunday.
That still averages out to about $7.42 million every day.

My previous estimate was based on $7 million every day domestic until it finishes its 45 day run.

But Monday it dropped to $2 million. That’s WELL below my $7 million average.

I stand firm on my $800 - $850 million and will be pleasantly surprised if it earns more.

@TyrantBossMedia - It’ll likely have decent legs through the holidays, but $800-$850 is a safe bet.

@mountainman - did it open in China?
NubaX
NubaX - 11/29/2022, 10:38 PM
@thewanderer - No. China is boycotting certain Marvel films and this is one of them because of the openly gay characters brief scene. ( which really wasn't necessary at all, honestly) Otherwise it would've already reached over 800 Million and on its way to a Billion before Advatar comes out.

@NubaX - thanks, yea that's why I was curious. China cost Love and Thunder about $100M, so I was curious if we were seeing the same impact here.

I enjoyed both movies, great to see them making money. The next movie I have on my list is Avatar 2!
Meanwhile, there's the World Cup for awesome entertainment ☺️

Off topic: Legendary entertainment is now going to work through Sony for distribution and no longer Warner brothers. However the monsterverse and dune will remain with wb.

Great news. You can't trust WB and that new CEO desperate for a hit. The guy will cancel your film if he doesn't like it but release trash like black Adam🤡.

This is great because Legendary finance their own films and have china backers which will guarantee a china release.

Also now legendary has access to Sony's video game library 💪

We might get an epic video game film with quality 💪❤️💪🔥💪❤️💪🔥

Maybe on paper it's not specified because china now only allows a certain amount of films per year but you better believe china will have Sony releases at the top of that list

I finally saw this today. I thought it was very good.

My only nitpick is Namor. I know they had to differentiate him from Aquaman, but I thought they went too far. The bone in the nose, jewelry, regalia were very over the top & looked pretty silly to me. I think they should have gone with less is more.

I liked Michael Jordan's return and that they kept him a total prick. No softening or gained wisdom in the afterlife for him.

I liked the sendoff they gave the King. Very well done.

I rank both films the same. It's crazy how much both of these films captured the revenge and loss tones. Goes to show that focused character story arcs surpass loads of action and/or humor in today's industry.

I'm sure Avatar will feature this same experience.

Money doesn't equal quality. I enjoyed both but The Batman was leaps and bounds a better cbm, and it's fine because we can all have different opinions. Ah who am I kidding lmao
