Marvel Studios Has Reportedly Met With More Than 65 Directors For The Solo BLACK WIDOW Film

Just a few days ago we learned of three directors that Marvel met with for the solo Black Widow film, and now we're hearing that the list of filmmakers the studio has met with is bigger than we thought...

With the recent release of Avengers: Infinity War and the massive success of Black Panther, 2018 is already proving to be an incredibly lucrative year for Marvel. However, this hasn't stopped the studio from looking to the future.

One film currently in the works is the solo Black Widow adventure, and Marvel is actively working to move forward with the project. They’ve already enlisted Jac Schaeffer to pen the script, and just recently it was revealed that the studio met with Deniz Gamze Erguven, Chloe Zhao and Amma Asante during their search for a director.

Now, we’ve learned that Marvel has actually met with a lot more directors than that.

According to Variety’s Justin Kroll, the studio has seen “more than 65 directors” about the possibility of helming the film.

While this could be interpreted as Marvel having some trouble finding a suitable candidate, Kroll notes that the studio is being “extremely thorough.” If Marvel is indeed hoping the Black Widow film will be a bigger success than Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman, they're obviously going to make sure they get the best possible director for the job.

@BlackBeltJones - Zack Snyder is the perfect choice!

@BlackBeltJones - Honestly there is no point of this film if it doesn't grow the MCU. This "prequel" could work as a Netflix mini series instead of a fullblown movie.

I would prefer a solo film set in current times with Widow dismantling what is left of the Black Widow program.

@SonOfAGif - What if the Red Room's most recent assets were, say... Crimson Dynamo and Omega Red? That'd be a good reason to bring a few friends along, no?

@Spock0Clock - Oh please no. A man can only get so hard. And I mean that directed at seeing Crimson Dynamo AND Omega Red onscreen. One of the first comics I ever read as a kid was Crimson Dynamo, Radioactive Man, The Slasher and someone else vs. The Avengers right after the Swordsman was killed. One of the books that got me hooked.

@SonOfAGif - bro... you really think they would make Black Widow, with Scarlett Johansson a netflix show? You're wack...
SonOfAGif
SonOfAGif - 5/3/2018, 9:46 AM
@TheePeterParker - I'm wack because I want an 8 episode arc which is roughly 8 hours of story vs. A 1hr and 30 minute movie? You're gross.

Black widow was at her most interesting in Age of Ultron...

You understand that they’re going with a female director but I hope they get Markus and McFeely to write. They’ve written the best Black Widow stuff.

@niceguyeddie - While I do agree, it isn't like there couldn't be someone out there who writes her even better. Marvel has made it this far by taking chances on their directors, can't see why the same can't be for their writers.

@JustAChillFan - true and they are known to take chances.

But only one can be American's Next MCU Top Director.

If Marvel wants a female director for Black Widow then I suggest Angelina Jolie. She knows action and did a good job directing Unbroken.

@defenderofthefaith - she also directed by the sea and in the land of blood and honey so y’know. ew.

unbroken was pretty bad too btw.

@TheRealTomServo - I liked Unbroken.

I'm not sure Jolie is right for Widow, but she's still my pick for a Cancer-Jane-She-Thor movie that will hopefully lure Portman back to the MCU and get Feige his first Oscar. Don't mock my carefully planned dreams! My fantasy doesn't hurt you, so leave it be!

I'm cool with that. This could have a fun, grounded indie feel to it. I could even see it having a very twisted Yorgos Lanthimos take, focusing on her time in Russia. Or perhaps they could go the realistic feeling Winter Soldier route. Either would please me. Something based on the Waid/Samnee run would be fun.

@SmellofDuty - the Edmondson run is great too

TheRealTomServo

@SmellofDuty - i feel like lanthimos is a bit too ‘weird’ for widow. save him for something like moon knight (or shade or klarion, if you lean dc).

I want a young Hawkeye and Winter Soldier in this film. Also, the advertisement on this site is a bit ridiculous, I couldn't even hit the post comment button.
