Despite ending its theatrical run as the lowest-grossing DCEU movie of all-time after its August 18 release, Bule Beetle will go down as one of the polarizing superhero universe's best-reviewed films. The film received a 78% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes which seems sky-high when compared to the likes of Wonder Woman 1984 (58%), Batman v Superman (29%), Man of Steel (56%), and Aquaman (66%).
Only The Suicide Squad (90%), Shazam! (90%), and the first Wonder Woman film (93%) garnered a higher approval rating.
But it's not all doom and gloom for Blue Beetle as the film's star, Xolo Maridueña is confirmed to move forward and reprise the role of Jaime Reyes in James Gunn's new DC Universe.
Blue Beetle actually started out as a project that was intended for HBO Max, now going by just Max. But director Angel Manuel Soto pushed for the film to receive a theatrical release.
"When I came into the project, the mandate at the time was that everything goes to HBO Max. I was like, I'll do the movie for the opportunity. [But] it can't be that the first time we have a Latino superhero front and center, not just a Latino playing a hero- [but] where he's a Latino, his family is Latino and they're going to actually be heroes of their own stories for the first time, it can not just live on streaming. It has to go to the theaters," said Soto in a previous interview.
Now, it has been announced that Blue Beetle will be hitting its original intended destination on November 17. Did you catch Blue Beetle in theaters or did you make a rental or digital purchase when it was made available on September 26? Let un know in the comment section below.
