Frank Grillo's Crossbones Is Reportedly Main Antagonist Of CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

A seemingly offhanded claim from a trusted Variety reporter suggests that Crossbones, played by Frank Grillo in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, will serve as the primary villain of the cinematic version of Civil War, despite Grillo's dismissal of knowledge on the project.

After making an appearance in this year's Captain America: The Winter Soldier, it's been widely speculated that Frank Grillo's Brock Rumlow, aka Crossbones, would play a significant part in future Captain America movies -- after all, he is the one that assassinated the Star-Spangled Avenger at the close of Marvel's Civil War event. However, Grillo seemingly knows very little about Marvel's cinematic version of Civil War, which will see Iron Man go head-to-head with Cap as in the comic, informing his Twitter followers about a week ago that he knows "less then (sic) nothing". Well, it appears he will return and play a bigger role than previously imagined, with Variety reporter Justin Kroll stating he will serve as the primary antagonist. The tweet below is a reference to Marvel's announcement that actor Daniel Bruhl would join Civil War in an unknown villainous role, with Kroll claiming that Bruhl's character is secondary to Crossbones.

This should still be taken as rumour, but with Variety being one of the most reliable sources out there, perhaps we will see Grillo take on a much more prominent role. Are you interested in more Crossbones, or should he remain at henchman-level?

I wonder how they plan on fitting the plot line of Cap searching for Winter Solider. Hope they don't drop it.

@SpiderFraud I was thinking maybe the final line that's drawn between Cap and Tony is Steve's refusal to give up Bucky, despite all the people he's murdered (including Stark's parents). This would then cause Tony to truly see that superpowered and gifted individuals cannot be aloud to act on their own as they are 'ruled by their emotions' so he backs the goverments registration plan.

i could see crossbones makeing a small appearance in the beginning of the film like with Batroc, but a film called civil war had better have cap vs tony with tony being like alexander pierce the guy calling the shots, the bad guy in cap's view despite also thinking he's doing the right thing.

Why does he have to be main, make him side and put zemo or strucker as the main villain

Crossbones? MAIN villain? I don't know about this one. Grillo is a solid actor, but Crossbones really hasn't ever been a central antagonist.

How's he going to be the main villain but not the main villain? I'm guessing they'll do a Chris Nolan styled introduction of introducing the mystery antagonist. Then again I still feel like as if we'll see the Masters of Evil pop up in this film.

why are people proposing zemo as the main villain when the film is titled civil war?

why are people proposeing that zemo be the villian when the film is titled civil war surely that would put stark as the films bad guy?

I think them having Reford as the main antagonist of TWS became a missed opportunity for them to use a more familiar villain. It seems like they've got wayyy too much to be introduced here in CA:CW.

-(possibly) Baron Zemo
-The Winter Soldier
-(possibly) Red Skull
-Crossbones
-Iron Man
-superhero registration act
etc...

There's no doubt that this film will be huge hopefully everyone is done an equal amount of justice. The Russo Bros. have acclaimed the script. So yeah, hopefully everything transpires well with the film.

I thought it was Red Skull responsible for the entire assasination. At first Cap was thought to be dead and then later on they used that time travel nonsense in which his soul or something like that wasn't really here. I can't even remember myself, all I know is that it really shifted things in the Marvel Comics Universe at that time. Man, I can still remember when Dark Reign hit the shelves. Good times...good times...

Unless Grillo's a dirty liar, this rumor is false.

Although, now that I think about it, they could just replace him . . .
