BOX OFFICE: International Numbers For CAPTAIN AMERICA: TWS's Opening Weekend

The Captain America sequel doesn't open in the US until next week, but it's already made a very impressive start overseas..just falling short of a whopping $80M haul. Of course at this stage it'd really only be news if a Marvel movie didn't clean up at the box office!

To absolutely nobody's surprise, Marvel look to have another massive hit on their hands. The excellent Captain America: The Winter Soldier has scored a very impressive $75M internationally over its opening weekend. The sequel is expected to earn upwards of $80M when it opens in North America on April 4, but it'll have to make $85M to match Marvel's last BO beast, Thor: The Dark World.

After the cataclysmic events in New York with The Avengers, Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” finds Steve Rogers, a.k.a. Captain America, living quietly in Washington, D.C. and trying to adjust to the modern world. But when a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague comes under attack, Steve becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue that threatens to put the world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow, Captain America struggles to expose the ever-widening conspiracy while fighting off professional assassins sent to silence him at every turn. When the full scope of the villainous plot is revealed, Captain America and the Black Widow enlist the help of a new ally, the Falcon. However, they soon find themselves up against an unexpected and formidable enemy—the Winter Soldier.

I get that MARVEL & Disney are hungry for international box office numbers, but dammit, this is a movie about a guy with a freakin' American flag on his chest, and for that reason alone it should open in America first or at least simultaneously with the UK, Europe & South America.

@ClarkStark: 50 fresh, 3 rotten is fantastic. Hopefully the ratio holds and it ends with 250 fresh, 15 rotten.

It won't make a billion dollars, but it will be a box office success, critically acclaimed and rated high with the general audience, which will put in the top CBMs of all-time category.

It's pretty impressive and says a lot both about the success of The Avengers and how good the movie looks. I don't expect it to beat Thor TDW's opening numbers since the first Thor was a bigger hit than Cap TFA, giving that franchise a stronger reputation. However, if it's even nearly as good as it looks to be, it could very likely win out in the long run and set up for Cap 3 to open even more strongly.

I must admit at first I thought "I'll see it when I'm on vacation" to "I have to see this" with the buzz it's getting. This and TASM2 are my two most anticipated movies this year.

DrDoom-i listened to some it and i liked it,the inter soldier theme i think fits the character, its dark, cold , mechanical, harsh,i really liked it ,but u have to undertsand the genre of the film, its suppose to a political thriller and music for political thrillers, atleast the ones i have seen, work much better within the context of the film then on their own

I hope this clears at least $600 million worldwide.
