UPDATE: Toby Jones Confirms ‘Arnim Zola’ Reprisal In CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER

Previously expressing his desire to reprise his ‘Arnim Zola’ role from Captain America: The First Avenger in The Winter Soldier sequel, Marvel has since granted Toby Jones’ wish, the actor reveals.

During the Golden Globes last week, English actor Toby Jones had revealed his desire to reprise his role as the Red Skull’s right-hand man, Arnim Zola, from Captain America: The First Avenger in the forthcoming sequel, The Winter Soldier. And within a week, Jones’ wish has apparently since been granted, according to Joe Cunningham of HeyUGuys. Speaking with the actor on the red carpet of the Critics Circle Awards, Toby Jones apparently let slip that he received ‘the call’ from Marvel and will indeed return as the iconic villain in the Russo Brothers-directed superhero political thriller.

UPDATE: HeyUGuys has just provided the video of their interview with Jones. Skip to the very end.

The folks from HeyUGuys promise a video of the interview later tonight, but we can speculate now about the presence of Arnim Zola’s role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. While he's likely appearing in flashbacks, perhaps, we may finally see his true comic book counterparts translate on-screen. Zola once created a device that would not only transfer someone’s essence to a clone, but also allow them to survive into modern times. Eventually using the device on himself, his body was replaced with a stronger, android one. This was teased in The First Avenger. What do you think?

Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” will pick-up where the highly anticipated film “Marvel’s The Avengers” leaves off, as Steve Rogers continues his affiliation with Nick Fury and the peacekeeping organization S.H.I.E.L.D, and struggles to embrace his role in the modern world. Starring Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Frank Grillo, Toby Jones, Cobie Smulders with Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson, and directed by Joe Russo & Anthony Russo from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures and is scheduled for release on April 4, 2014.

Great news. Really like Toby Jones as an actor. We still have two more roles to be filled, though. Sharon Carter, who I think will be played by Jessica Brown Findlay, as well as the main villain role still up for grabs between Josh Holloway and Nikolaj Coster Waldau, presumable Baron Zemo😊.

Baron should be the 1 that is pulling Bucky's strings as the Winter Soldier.

It's cool to see some continuity here, with the time gap, it makes it hard to connect this movie to the first one. Glad to see he's coming back in some form.

It's probably just going to be a flashback to show how The Winter Soldier was created, but either way it's still pretty cool

This movie's starting to feel a little cramped...

I hope he's only in flashbacks, that would make sense. If Zemo is in this then they shouldn't put Zola in his suit until maybe the post credits teaser

So I'm reading wiki about all these characters. I'm curious how Marvels gonna do this. Like the Falcon. He got his link to Redwing from the Red Skull. So is this Sam Wilson going to be a modern day SHIELD agent that meets Cap?

@bbarber2323 Bucky, well, in the MCU, loses his grasp from the railing of the train and falls into the river, in which it freezes, preserving his body to be found decades later. In the comics, essentially the same thing happens, but we know what happens... His right arm is useless and the Soviet Union recovers his body and replaces his arm with a bio-mechanical limb. As well as brain-washing his ass.

Zola however cloned himself to an android, that is how he survived all this time. I believe he received documents from his ancestors that had formulas to advanced technology that showed him how to do so. He was the first biological clone.

IronHood
IronHood - 1/20/2013, 3:28 PM
@Luminus Thank you for that.

Seriously, he better have his robotic suit. It would be stupid if he didn't. Everyone knows normal human bodies who haven't been given any serums or formulas can't last so his mind should be uploaded into his armor/suit. Zola & Baron Zemo should be responsible for Bucky's brainwashing. As for Falcon? I'm sure he's already a SHIELD agent who Fury will introduce/partner up with Cap & Widow to investigate this mysterious "Winter Soldier" character. If that's the movie plot, then it will be awesome!

As for Madame Hydra? Hint at her & Zemo in this movie to be the ones who was behind Bucky's transformation & then have them be the main villains in Cap 3.
