During the Golden Globes last week, English actor Toby Jones had revealed his desire to reprise his role as the Red Skull’s right-hand man, Arnim Zola, from Captain America: The First Avenger in the forthcoming sequel, The Winter Soldier. And within a week, Jones’ wish has apparently since been granted, according to Joe Cunningham of HeyUGuys. Speaking with the actor on the red carpet of the Critics Circle Awards, Toby Jones apparently let slip that he received ‘the call’ from Marvel and will indeed return as the iconic villain in the Russo Brothers-directed superhero political thriller.
UPDATE: HeyUGuys has just provided the video of their interview with Jones. Skip to the very end.
The folks from
HeyUGuys promise a video of the interview later tonight, but we can speculate now about the presence of Arnim Zola’s role in
Captain America: The Winter Soldier. While he's likely appearing in flashbacks, perhaps, we may finally see his true comic book counterparts translate on-screen. Zola once created a device that would not only transfer someone’s essence to a clone, but also allow them to survive into modern times. Eventually using the device on himself, his body was replaced with a stronger, android one. This was teased in
The First Avenger. What do you think?
Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” will pick-up where the highly anticipated film “Marvel’s The Avengers” leaves off, as Steve Rogers continues his affiliation with Nick Fury and the peacekeeping organization S.H.I.E.L.D, and struggles to embrace his role in the modern world. Starring Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Frank Grillo, Toby Jones, Cobie Smulders with Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson, and directed by Joe Russo & Anthony Russo from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures and is scheduled for release on April 4, 2014.
