On Thursday, January 5, the Academy will screen clips featuring each song, in random order, for voting members of the Music Branch in Los Angeles. Following the screenings, members will determine the nominees by an averaged point system of voting. If no song receives an average score of 8.25 or more, there will be no nominees in the category. If only one song achieves that score, it and the song receiving the next highest score shall be the two nominees. If two or more songs (up to five) achieve that score, they shall be the nominees. A DVD copy of the song clips will be made available to those branch members who are unable to attend the screening and who request it for home viewing. A mail-in ballot will be provided.

Under Academy rules, a maximum of two songs may be nominated from any one film. If more than two songs from a film achieve a score of 8.25 or more, the two songs with the highest scores will be the nominees.

To be eligible, a song must consist of words and music, both of which are original and written specifically for the film. A clearly audible, intelligible, substantive rendition of both lyric and melody must be used in the body of the film or as the first music cue in the end credits.

The 84th Academy Awards nominations will be announced live on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at 5:30 a.m. PT in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2011 will be presented on Sunday, February 26, 2012, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center®, and televised live by the ABC Television Network. The Oscar® presentation also will be televised live in more than 225 countries worldwide.

Well, at least it may win for something.

The "Academy" doesn't consider CBM's serious film-making. Had to swallow their pride with TDK...bunch of self-important fools.

Defiantly deserves it. So catchy. Big snub not to have in nominated for the golden globes. Never thought a superhero movie would get nominated for best song.

The nominees for best song should be...
Star Spangled Man-Captain America
So Long-Winnie the Pooh
Life's A Happy Song-The Muppets
Man or a Muppet-The Muppets
Pictures in my Head-The Muppets

All five of these songs are great, catchy, timeless and captures the spirits of there movies (also i have all five of them on my ipod).

What, Green Lantern didn't get nominated???

Seriously though, haven't heard all the nominees but this song deserves some kind of recognition. Wasn't it written by Disney guys? Or am I getting that mixed up with the Stark Expo song in Iron Man 2? Or both?

@MovieMaster: Their just considerations not nominations. It hasn't been confirmed that any CBM's have been nominated for Oscars this year; however, it has been confirmed that they are considered for nominations.
golden123
golden123 - 12/19/2011, 4:16 PM
@headlopper: They have changed the maximum number for Best Picture from five to ten since "The Dark Knight". So maybey, a future CBM has a better chance of winning Best Picture. Who knows, with ten open slots maybey, just maybey "X-Men: First Class" will become a nominee. I wouldn't say it deserves to win, but I could see it being a nominee.

No chance of winning, although it's the highest recognition Marvel studios could get since they don't care about actors or directors.
golden123
golden123 - 12/19/2011, 5:22 PM
@redleaf: Before we know it we'll be hearing news that Alan Menken and Alan Silvestri no longer wants to compose the Captain America sequel's score, nor does Silvestri want to compose the score for "The Avengers" all because of Marvel studios.;)

They're warding off actors (Howard, Norton, & Rourke) and directors (Favreau & Jenkins) like crazy. I wouldn't say it's a stretch to say composers are next.

I was looking up Alan Silvestri (the composer for Captain America and the Avengers though he didn't do this song) and come to find out this guy has done "Forrest Gump" and "The Polar Express". Those movies had great music. I can't wait to hear "The Avengers" soundtrack now.

@golden123- Didn't know that. That line of logic makes sense. The odds have definitely improved, however the decision may just be film industry politics for whatever calculated reason- probably has something to do with money.

I lost all respect for the Academy when Sharlto Copley WASN'T EVEN NOMINATED LET ALONE WON-! for his lead role in 'District 9'.
Watch the film again and just focus on his performance- it's supernatural!
