Chris Evans Praises Captain America: The First Avenger Director Joe Johnston!

Essentially praising Joe Johnston, and his Captain America: The First Avenger directorship, as well someday sitting in the director's chair, check out what Chris Evans says!

In a recent chat with Female First, leading Captain America: The First Avenger star Chris Evans briefly discussed his director, Joe Johnston, and potentially getting behind the camera someday.

"This was one of the best experiences I've had working with a director to date. I felt like my opinion mattered. Joe's not crazy into giving actors too many notes, but that's great. I want to know the technical stuff and he loves to five it."

"We had conversations about script, character, content. It was a really healthy dialogue and made me want to direct even more. Doing this movie could, should, get me a step closer.

The goal is that, even in the last frame of the film, you want the audience to still see him as skinny Steve."

Captain America: The First Avenger focuses on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America. As Captain America, Rogers joins forces with Bucky Barnes and Peggy Carter to wage war on the evil HYDRA organization, led by the villainous Red Skull. Starring Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Tommy Lee Jones, Hayley Atwell, Samuel L. Jackson, Stanley Tucci and Hugo Weaving, the film releases July 22, 2011.

"The goal is that, even in the last frame of the film, you want the audience to still see him as skinny Steve."

That reminds me of Ryan Reynolds in the movie "Just Friends" with Amy Smart. In that film, after Reynold';s character loses weight, his personality changes from square to bachelor, but in parts of the plot, you see a small part of his old nerd personality come out and it makes the film even funnier. Ha ha, that's classic! LoL

I'm cautiously optimistic about this still. I still think it has a chance to be a pretty big disappointment (Joe Johnston sucking like Wolfman, no international interest, etc).

I can't lay "Wolfman" at Joe Johnston's feet. He was brought in to replace the original director right before filming. That was about trying to salvage an obviously troubled production. I won't defend other films of his that people may dislike, but that one seems like it needs an asterisk every time his name is attached.

Whatever you think of JJ's films they always LOOK good.

He has a great visual style.

I hope the movie is good. Really do.

Just that I don't yet have much faith on this director yet. Maybe this movie could chance that, who knows.

Johnston made the third JP movie?! OMG I didn`t know that. It was ok, but not better than Wolfman. Besides, Wolfman got an Oscar too :)

What's wrong with the way JP3 looks??

Those scene in the pterodactyl park looked pretty freakin chilling.

Im kinda worried about this one too. Theres little doubt that this will be a visual treat (JP3) but storywise..it might suffer. Cuz that what JJ movies do imo. Theres a chance that walking away for seeing this the first time one might think its great but after many viewing you can see how bad some things are. Hopefully we get a really good superhero in a ww2 film and its taken seriously and that movie has heart and soul. Not a popcorn flick for the summer with no brains

I'm not worried about this movie at all

There was a lot of problems with JP3. Plot, Characters, and the feeling of where it was going. I thought it was gonna be awesome, but after the T-rex died, i wanted to walk out.

That movie has to be the biggest disappointment (movie wise) for me. JP2 is my all-time favorite movie.

Catman's right. Joe Johnston is not a good director. That's why i have my doubts.

The Casting is perfect, however. Evans and Weaving look brilliant. BUT If this movie disappoints me, then i can no longer trust Joe Johnston.

Funny how everyone brings "The Wolfman" AND "JP3" ... BOTH projects where he came in at the last moment and directed the movie to pay the bills.

Every other Joe Johnston film where he has had the time to put in the work has turned out to be great.

You all want to bash him for those 2 movies, but what the GREAT movies he's directed such as: The Rocketeer, October Sky, and Honey I Shrunk the Kids. That last one was great for it's time. Also Jumanji too.

Intruder - I agree they both visually great, especially Wolfman and as someone above said the Pterodactyl scene was one of the more creepy scenes in the trilogy.

The script for JP3 WAS by far the worst thing in that movie. I like William H. Macy but damn he was annoying!

I have very high hopes in this movie, I know Chris will give a solid performance, but it's the character itself that makes me feel uneasy, is one of the hardest to translate to modern times to the big screen, I honestly want this movie to succeed and even more importantly, I want to see more captaian America in future movies.

@IronAngel - I agree, man. I LOVED Evans in Cellular, and he made FF very diverse and interesting. Without him, some of these films would have been bland. And he can act very versatile. Marvel said it, themselves; particularly after the Sundance film: Sunshine. I'd love to see him direct. Look how good Affleck did with the movie: The Town, lol. Great movie. I bet Evans has it done pat, just waiting for his shot.

sonofsamadams - 6/10/2011, 1:17 PM
27, huh?
That's almost believable as a Joe Johston winning Best Director

and is this 'grown woman' from Pittsburgh? or perhaps Mandan North Dakota? Because only a shit-faced dirty slut would be engaged to such a scumbag like yourself.

No I insist intruder, please continue this already pointless argument, its freaking hilarious.

I sure hope Evans can pull this off. Cap needs to lead the Avengers, not Iron Man. Sure hope Marvel doesn't try to follow the Disney cartoon.
