Reasons Why Captain America is Awesome

Reasons Why Captain America is Awesome

In the spirit of Independence Day and my fanboy-ism, I've decided to list the reasons why Steve Rogers is an awesome superhero.

Reason 1: The Message
A lot of Cap's appeal comes from the fact that he's a symbol of freedom and our great country. Some may argue our country is not so great. Cap is like the national role model, showing us what we could be if we're ever down on our luck. I mean he was created to boost our spirits as countrymen, 'America' is in his name for God's sake. If that isn't displaying the intended market I don't know what is.  He's a strong-willed, morally righteous human being and at the end of the day all of us strive to be somewhat like that.

Reason 2: The Underdog Factor
Cap wasn't always the buff, shield-throwing patriot we know today. In his own words he was just a skinny kid from Brooklyn who 'depending on which comic' was born on the Fourth of July. A scrawny kid that just wanted to serve his country is a truly heartfelt plight considering he just wanted to follow his dreams. And yes, Cap took some 'Marvel steroids' known as the Super Soldier Serum but he's still an underdog. Think about this, you have Captain America who is a 95 year old man who granted has the physical condition of the best in any Olympic competition. That basically means nothing when your standing next to a God, a Hulk and genius billionaire playboy philanthropist Tony Stark. So a lot of people still underestimate Cap's value and in the movies as well as the box office he's proven his value more times over. Thor: The Dark World didn't do so hot (Fun Fact: Chris Evans even had a cameo in the movie) and fan-wise not all the Iron Man films are perfect. However, Cap is on his way to having a perfect CBM trilogy with Cap 3 on the way after Avengers AoU.

Reason 3: He's a War Vet
You should always respect those who fight for your freedom kids. Say your prayers, eat your vitamins, drink your milk yadda yadda yadda. Captain America was alive and fought in WW2, arguably the height of patriotism. He's still fighting for your freedom and he's only asking for 10 dollars to go see his movies which alot of CBM fans would gladly give up. Cap knows how to win and fight and has a strict moral compass that won't allow him to play for the wrong side. And believe me, whatever side Cap is on is the side you want to be on. Aside from being an Olympic-level athlete and having a vibranium shield, Cap is also a master tactician and strategist so he will without a doubt lead his men to victory. Having fought in countless battles and wars, it's next to impossible to outsmart him or put him in a situation where he wouldn't know what to do.

Reason 4: Quite the Rogues Gallery...

Just speaking as a comic book fan here, Captain America has some of the most creative and out-there villains I've ever seen. Armadillo, Arnim Zola, Red Skull, Crossbones, MODOK, Nuke the list goes on and on. Not a lot of people know some of his minor villains but even his minor villains are cool enough to be a main villain in this MCU. Cap faces Neo-Nazism, physical strength and even his own friend Bucky Barnes had to face Cap at one point, delving into the emotion-filled journey the Man out of Time has been through. Cap has died and come back so I doubt he'll be disappearing any time soon in the comics or the MCU. His status as an American figure will stand for some time and I hope we get as many Captain America movies as possible out of Chris Evans.Red Skull, one of the most vicious villains in the MCU should be expected to make a return at some point to the Captain America franchise.

Also Sebastian Stan's trainer alluded that he might pop up in AoA. It was either on instagram or twitter. Get to work and someone make an article. Lol.

"In reality Steve would be disgusted by America today."

That's precisely what The Winter Soldier showed so well. It perfectly established that Cap is the guy who doesn't ever change. He's the one main character that is perfectly acceptable to NOT have a character arc. He doesn't change. Everything around him does. And yeah, he slowly realized that America had really gone down the drain.

Cap is definitely one of my favorite cbm characters. He's morally upright and inherently good (and nice, refreshing change of pace when it seems like EVERY other character needs to be dark, conflicted, and all that nonsense), he's genuinely heroic, he inspires others, he's a symbol of hope. He's everything us Americans should strive to be like.

Happy Independence Day, all! Now where's my copy of that Will Smith movie...

@AlexanderLykins, Haha why thank you! *gets of soapbox*

It's also no coincidence that I happen to be wearing my Captain America shirt at the moment to celebrate the 4th of July...

@kinghulk

I don't believe anything from Wardell. Like I side his trainer hinted at it when a fan asked him. He posts over 100x vids of Stan working out so fans got to questioning.

Personally the reason I love Cap is because he is really a combination of the best characteristics of Superman and Batman. He has Superman's humanity and uncompromising sense of right and wrong. He also like Batman is human sure he is enhanced but he can't fly, he can't shoot lasers from his eyes, he can't lift a car and throw it, hell he can't even stop a bullet. He can still die but through all that he will stand up to gods and ancient beings that devour planets because he like Batman has an unwavering will that can will stand against whatever the threat and never back down.

People ignorantly think that because he is called Captain America and basically wears the flag as his costume he is some jingoistic nationalist conservative that follows the governments orders like a lapdog. That couldn't be further from the truth he is the symbol of what America says it is but fails to be everyday he stands for what the Constitution and the Deceleration of Independence say we are about but fail at everyday. He doesn't stand for the government he stands for the people. Steve will fight the government when he finds them in the wrong as quickly as he would Red Skull or Baron Zemo.

This is one of my favorite spread pages from when I read comics, before I had to give them up because I couldn't afford them. It is from What If? Annihilation #1 where Annihilus won and destroyed the Kree people and most of the armies trying to stop them were wiped out. Only Nova, Firelord, Stardust, and Red Shift survived flying off to Earth in order to rally the heroes to stand against the coming invasion. They came back smack in the middle of Civil War and told them of the coming destruction making Cap and IM put aside their differences to fight the coming invasion. The heroes fought against the coming forces until the main force with Annihilus was upon them. The surviving heroes created a bomb in order to destroy Annihilus's forces that they would detonate on the moon but someone needed to stay behind to guard the bomb so it wouldn't be disarmed. So Nova, Cap, and IM made the ultimate sacrifice and together fought off the attackers until the bomb could detonate. It was just an awesome page and the small caption spoke of how great heroes they were just awesome seeing three of my favorite heroes go out like that.

Very nice article, CookieKid247.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier was epic! It show cased an ideal Cap perfectly.
Aside from his colorful looks and fighting skills, I admire Captain America for what he is inside and what he represents. I was most impressed with him when he proved to Magneto that he doesn't have any hate feelings or malice towards Mutant kind.
