COMICS: Scott Snyder And Jim Lee's New Superman Series Gets A Title

USA Today reports that the untitled Superman series from writer Scott Snyder and artist Jim Lee will actually be name Superman Unchained (the first issue goes on sale on June 12th). The title will also feature back-up stories from Synder with artist Dustin Nguyen. May 4th will give fans a glimpse at the new series in a special Free Comic Book Day offering which will focus on the Man of Steel before his return to the big screen in the movie of the same name. "We're all fans and we've all known this character for a long time," Jim Lee says. "You have to fight your natural tendency to do what you know or what you've always thought the character to be. We've been pushing the creators to not be beholden to the past conceits and understandings of Superman. So we will speak to a new generation of readers." Snyder adds: "If I think for a second, 'I'm working on Superman,' you get chills and it becomes very, very intimidating when you think of all the amazing stories that have come before. The way to approach a character as iconic as him is you just come at it from a standpoint of what you love the most about the character, and then write a story that explores that, tear it down and build it back up." @Araxis- an evil plantation owner has Lois Lane. Superman with the help of Dr. King Schultz (a bounty hunter) will go on an adventure to save her. Should be good.

@Araxis Just different creative teams. And Superman is always set in the present New 52 while other books can go in the past or future I guess.

Strange title couldn't they have just stick with the man of steel title? Considering the new superman movie is called man of steel and the first issue comes 2 days before its released. The title sounds like a parody comic.

@rbn04 Wow, funny you just judged the entire series without even reading one single issue of Snyder's run.

It's the title of the series, (unoriginal, not well thought out, lazy title), but never judge a comicbook by it's cover in this case.

This has been a great year for Superman fans: The H'El on Earth arc has been awesome; The Justice League comics have been fantastic; We have a new Superman title on the way, the DC animated movie Superman Unbound is out in May; of course, Man of Steel in June, and the possible good news about Nolan and the Justice League movie. It is just a wonderful time to be a Superman fan.

Would have preferred this to be called SUPERMAN: THE MAN OF STEEL. SUPERMAN UNCHAINED makes it sound like a mini-series. Still a cool title, though.
