PRESS RELEASE:

Two Marvel icons fight side-by-side once more as CAPTAIN AMERICA becomes CAPTAIN AMERICA AND BUCKY with issue #620, co-written by Eisner Award winners Ed Brubaker and Marc Andreyko with art by Chris Samnee for only $2.99! From the trenches of Nazi-occupied Europe to the halls of Avengers Tower, Bucky Barnes has seen it all! Now, learn the whole truth about this life spent in the crosshairs – and the secrets of a future primed to explode like a powder keg.

"What was Cap like in the early days, before WWII started? This is a question I've wanted to explore for years. And of course, the whole series ties directly into what's going on in CAPTAIN AMERICA and Fear Itself, and sets up future plans for [CLASSIFIED], said Brubaker. Getting to work with Marc and Chris, of course, is the cherry on top, since they're both doing brilliant work here."

Co-writer Andreyko explained, "Getting to explore unseen pieces of Bucky's history, from WWII through today, is an absolute blast. Being able to contribute to the Captain America legacy is an honor and a privilege and I can't wait to see the readers' reactions!"

There’s a similar thrill for artist Chris Samnee, who revealed, "The scripts I've gotten from Ed and Marc so far have been outstanding. I'm doing everything I can to live up to all the work they're putting into these scripts and pushing myself to make these pages the absolute best work I can muster. And having Bettie Breitweiser handling colors on these issues really take my stuff to another level. She's an amazing talent and I couldn't be happier with the pages I've seen from her so far."

Some heroes are born great and others made great. But a select few must go through hell before they discover what kind of hero they can be. Can Bucky find his place in the Marvel Universe before his past finds him first? Leap into battle with the man who would be the Winter Solder this July when CAPTAIN AMERICA AND BUCKY #620 opens a whole new chapter in the history of both Fighting Avengers!

This is great. Seeing Cap fight outside the currently convoluted Marvel U will be refreshing. Just chock it full of Skull, Zemo & Strucker!

Wait, please explain the comment:

"What was Cap like in the early days, before WWII started?"

I thought he was created DURING WWII!? He should be training on a military base preparing to get shipped out if I remember correctly.

Nope. He was created months before Pearl Harbor and participate in several missions as a seret agent, such as rescuing a young Black Widow.

So we'll get to see Captain America at his racist best?
Sure, he's anti-Nazi, but he's still technically racist.

Can't wait.

I wonder what those future plans are going to be about?

If this is what that mean by putting Steve back in the Cap costume, then I Love It! I guess this is at least one time when the comics were influenced by the movies turned out to be a good thing.

@ Hannibal_King - I'm reading your post with sarcastic humor....I love it! And I'm a dark skinned minority dammit!

Haven't seen anyone talking about what happens to Bucky Barnes in the modern era. Does he go back to being the Winter Soldier? Will he be killed off? Will he become Nightwing?

@Hannibal_King how is cap a racist? he partnered up with the falcon, encouraged patriot to become the hero he is, and is good friends with Luke Cage

@Winter Soldier - Racism isnt exclusive to black people big guy. German is just as much a race as African is, so therefore you can be racist against German people, or as WWII Cap would say "krautz". I myself am German so I believe that is a fairly racist thing to say (In a purposefully derogitory connotation of course). The more you know :)

MikeKus- It seems to me that Marvel/Timely went out of their way to avoid racist overtones with a lot of their WWII stuff. The Howling Commandos included a Black member over a decade (in comic time) before Truman de-segregated the troops. Howlers also included a Japanese-American member (Many of whom fought with valor during the actual conflict BTW) when it would have been easier not to do so. It was Superman, after all, who urged us to "Slap a Jap!" (SIC)
