COMICS: Stephen Wacker Teases THE SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN With More New Artwork

Talking to Comic Book Resources, Marvel Senior Editor Steve Wacker has released some brand new artwork from January's The Superior Spider-Man. Below you will find Joe Quesada and Giuseppe Camuncoli's variants for issue #1, J. Scott Campbell's Amazing Spider-Man #700 and Superior Spider-Man #1 interlocking variants and a first look at Humberto Ramos' pencils for issue #6. These may or may not contain more clues as to the identity of the "Superior" Spidey. Discussing the future of Peter Parker, Wacker said: "For years to come the shadow of Peter Parker is going to be draped over the book. There's nothing you can do about that. But new cast members will come in. Life goes on. Peter Parker fans will sort of fade away over the months and years, and you'll have a bunch of people who only know the new cast. It's probably similar to what happened with Ben Reilly back in the day. And fans seem to want him back." Keep calm folks, and be sure to pick up Amazing Spider-Man #700 when it goes on sale on December 26th.

Martin Sheen was on Irish TV tonight and he confirmed that he'd been called back for ASM 2. I don't know if that was previously announced but if it wasn't, there you go.

I don't want to take sides on this issue one way or another until we know for certain who this new "Superior" Spider-Man is, and what happened to Peter Parker...

... but comments like these are making me REALLY leery.

(Going by the repeated goggle motif on Superior Spidey's eyes, though, I'd bet dollars to donuts that it's somehow Doctor Octopus...)

Fade Away? [frick] YOU! Don't shit on the fans who made Spiderman as big as he is. Don't forget who your [frick]ing fan base is Marvel.

What the Flux-capacitor Marvel doing with Spider-man? First killing off Peter Parker (which I am fine with) and now having someone else as Spidey in TASM! Are they bored of him or something?

fade away from existence? probably not. fade away from the population of readers would be reading the new spider-man series? maybe, depends on how this story pans out.

"Peter Parker fans will fade away."

Did you really just say that? That was the dumbest thing I've read all year. This new character will never achieve the level of popularity and iconic presence of Peter Parker.

that picture with both spider-men touching fingers is sexy lol. it also kinda reveals that the superior spiderman is indeed doc ock.

What is wrong with marvel editorial? Do they not realize their job is to not anger the fan base with bonehead statements?

My subscription ends I think around issue #4 or #5 of Superior Spider-Man. If I'm not hooked by then....no renewal.

Nah. We "Peter Parker/Spider-Man" fans won't fade away as much as they think (it will all depend on this new series and how it goes in terms of the characters, this new Spider-Man, and the story for this series). But that's all I'm gonna say. I don't wanna go ranting off like a bafoon and possibly say something stupid. Besides, we know that Pete isn't dead. He's just stuck inside of Doc Ock's body (poor guy :P). So we'll more than likely see him (like some CBMers have suggested) around the time where they release TASM2. And also, that one variant cover where we see this new Spidey holding a gun -- Marvel, do the right and smart move and do no, DO NOT, give him a gun. Just.......Don't.

Guys...the emblem on the chest, the goggles, the gun...the fingers on the interlocking cover are "gooey" (and every other shot of them has claw tips), he loves Mary Jane and its "darker and grittier"

Its Venom.

@TheFox - You think so? I mean, it could be a possible that the "new" Spider-Man is in fact Octavius, but I'll guess we'll have to wait and see. I wouldn't be too surprised, though, if they do reveal that it is Doc Ock. Oh, well.... :/

Shows exactly how much Marvel value their fans, with senior members of staff making comments like 'Peter Parker fans will fade away', as if they're the most unimportant people in the world to them. Spider-Man had probably been the most popular Marvel character consistently over the 50 years since his creation. If it weren't for Peter Parker's fans, Marvel would probably have closed down decades ago. Try to show them some respect, especially when you're destroying everything else that the fans love about the character that made you successful in the first place.

"peter parker fans will fade away" first of all [frick] you that will never happen, 2, [frick] you for giving spidey a gun, 3 wtf is wrong with slott and this artist, do they have the brain cells of an infant when it comes to writing? how can they get the poin of the chracter this wrong?

I think it is Doc Ock. Look at that image of the 2 Spideys. The one on the right has tentacles in it. We also know that the new Spidey is with MJ, and I heard that Ock as Peter is tryin to renew that relationship. I want O'Hara, but I don't think he's it.
