Spider-Man is a character who is hard not to like. He believes in a strong sense of morality, has a sense of style, and knows how to make the reader laugh. However, what makes him different than people like Superman, is that he's grounded in the real world. Over the years he's evolved as a character. What if you take a bit of all of that away, and replace it with a sense of a downgrade? This is what you get. If a new reader jumped in the book right now, I can't see them liking him, I mean, I don't even like him right now, and I'm one of his biggest fans. Why, why.......anyways, with a surprisingly impressive last issue, does this one continue to go down the road of impressing? A bit.

The story continues with the Vulture sending out his "angels" to do his business. Meanwhile, Spidey and Carlie are on the case, and find out that it wan't spiders, they had.....wings, now they know the truth. Spidey's on the job, and what follows is a showdown between webs and feathers.

This may come as a bit of a surprise, but Vulture was the one who stole the show. Gone are the lame days as being known as the weakest character of the rouge gallery, he actually resembles "cool" now. Spidey is still a joke however. Is Marvel trying to distance themselves? What I mean is that are they hoping to make the Avengers their main thing? Maybe I'm saying this wrong. It just appears that they're purposely downgrading Spidey, he's had barely any say in the big things lately. His wise-cracking is no longer funny, it's getting kind of annoying, and this issue is an example of that. Mary Jane still continues to be nothing more than a filler character, she's there just to be there. The dynamic between Carlie and Peter is a bit confusing now, apparently their police partners now. And don't get me started on Vulture's minions, they were horribly written.

The art is nothing more than "OK." I'll take it over the horrendous art that was in Spider-Island any day however. Of course, when you have amazing art over at DC, you begin to wonder why this art is just so inferior. Nice cover though.

Overall, not a bad issue, just not as good as the last one. I *had* renewed faith in this series, but this issue slowly destroyed it. Maybe with the return of the Sinister Six next issue, I'll regain that faith.

7/10.
