#1: Spider-Man

Spider-Man is one of the most popular superhero characters created by Marvel Comics, and has been a fan favorite for many years since making his first appearance in Amazing Fantasy #15.

Spider-Man is the alter ego of Peter Parker, a young high school student who gained superpowers after being bitten by a radioactive spider. Peter Parker was orphaned as a child, and was raised by his aunt and uncle. He is intelligent, but often struggles with his personal life and financial problems.

Steve Ditko was the one who conceptualized the very first suit, which was a web-patterned red and blue spandex costume. In addition, there was a mask with enormous white eyes included, and the symbol of a spider on his chest. Some argue that the Spider-Man's costume in his early appearances was actually red and black. Unfortunately Ditko took the answer with him when he passed away in 2018. The appearance of the costume has evolved over the years, undergoing a number of changes and updates; but, its signature red and blue color scheme and spider symbol have remained unchanged. Spider-Man has also utilized a number of other outfits over his career, such as the Iron Spider suit and the Venom symbiote suit.

Characteristics that make Spider-Man approachable and human have contributed to the hero's widespread popularity. Peter Parker, despite possessing superpowers, nevertheless has to confront many of the same hardships and challenges that ordinary people experience, such as maintaining relationships and paying debts. Readers and viewers are able to empathize with him on a deeper level as a result of this.

Spider-Man possesses a wide variety of abilities and super powers, including superhuman strength, agility, and the power to shoot webs from his wrists. In addition, he has the ability to climb walls. Because of his skills, he is an intimidating and fascinating character, both to read about and to observe on screen.

Spider-Man has become one of the most well-known and well-liked superhero characters of all time thanks to his inclusion in a large number of comic books, television shows, and movies throughout the course of his long and storied career. Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland are just a few of the actors who have taken on the live-action role of the character and brought him to the big screen. Most recently all three were brought together into the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) thanks to Doctor Strange in 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home.

There have been a number of animated television shows and movies starring Spider-Man, some of which include the animated series from 1967, the animated series from 1981, and the animated series from the 1990s. In addition to making an appearance in a number of video games, the character also has a sizable product line.

Overall, Spider-Man's appeal may be due to the fact that he possesses relatable and human-like features, a varied range of skills and abilities, and a lengthy history of appearances in a variety of media. These factors combine to make him a popular character. He is a much-loved and everlasting character who never ceases to captivate the imaginations of followers from all over the world.

There was a time in the 90’s that The Punisher had 3 titles. I think he has sold better than Doctor Strange or Deadpool.

@OriginalGusto1 - I guess. I wouldn't have put the X-Men, and then listed Wolverine later on a list of characters. I'd argue Storm has had a hell of a run, quite a few did before Hickman's latest X run actually, and of course Cyke as Nate mentioned, but an ensemble on the list seems like a cop out.

Not a bad list, but a few points. Having a whole group of characters on a most popular characters list is cheating, especially when you have entries for individual characters of said group (Wolverine, Deadpool). Following that logic the Fantastic Four should be there. Plus, I'd argue that characters like Daredevil and Black Panther are more popular than Black Widow.

I know that there are a LOT of people who are fans of the Fantastic Four. For whatever reason, I've just never really been a fan.

Daredevil and Punisher are actually two of my favorites. Looking back at it, I should have put them on the list, but I don't know that they've actually been as influential as the ones on the list when it comes to pop culture...

They are some of the most well known superheroes.
I don’t think Black Widow is more known than them.

It is weird and good at the same just how popular Marvel characters have gotten. In the past I would never have considered any of them as anywhere near as popular as DC's top three. But now I do consider it.

This article needs an editor. For Black Widow, it says she was introduced in the late 50's, then it immediately contradicts by saying she was intro'd in 1964. There are a number of other errors, factual and otherwise.

Great list, see the most modern character on the list is Deadpool but the MCU seems to be pushing new characters that nobody wants.

I'm surprised Silver Surfer, Punisher and Venom didn't make the list.

No villains? Dr. Doom? Loki is surely more popular than Black Widow. I feel like her presence on this list is more about inclusion. For the most part, I feel like the rest is pretty accurate. I would probably rank them as follows:

1) Spidey
2) Wolverine
3) Hulk
4) Cap
5) Dr. Doom
6) Ironman

Deadpool, Punisher, Thor, Loki probably round out the top 10. I'm 44 and am basing this off my entire Fandom from comics to movies.
