TOP 10 Ways To Make Marvel Cinematic Universe Characters More Awesome

TOP 10 Ways To Make Marvel Cinematic Universe Characters More Awesome

Marvel have hardly put a foot wrong with characterisation in their flagship franchise – there have been a few exceptions to that rule, of course and most characters are as good as we hoped they could be in terms of their live action portrayal, but there are ways to make some of them even more awesome.
Showing moments of spectacular heroism or sheer ruthlessness, displaying new powers or invoking particularly awesome scenes from the comics could be ways to make that happen.
In this article, we’re going to take a look at some of those potential methods. Here are ten ways to make Marvel Cinematic Universe characters more awesome…

10 - Have Rocket Threaten Thanos

Rocket Raccoon was pretty much universally loved after his first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Bradley Cooper portrayed the lovable rogue hero in Guardians of the Galaxy and the character was portrayed as being funny, resourceful and ruthless.

There is, however, a scene from the comics that, if it was to be portrayed on screen, would really show audiences how awesome he is.

Thanos has the Guardians of the Galaxy’s leader, Star-Lord, in a death grip and was about to kill him before Rocket appeared in a power suit and told the Mad Titan to let him go. Although he knew the suit’s weapons wouldn’t kill Thanos (and told him as much), he informed the villain that the suit would disable him in his weakened state long enough for the heroes to drop him off at in nearby black hole.

Standing up to such a powerful villain was badass to the extreme and showed the little furry hero to be truly courageous and awesome.

9- Show Black Widow’s Difficult Upbringing

Natasha Romanoff is one of the most formidable female characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and we’ve seen her kicking ass in Iron Man 2, the Avengers movie and Captain America: The Winter Soldier so far.

Although her past has been briefly discussed, the character has not been given an origin movie, so we are yet to see how she became the formidable combatant he is today.

It would, therefore, be very cool for Marvel Studios to delve in to her childhood, upbringing and training because, it her life has been anything like the character’s life in the comics, it would only serve to convey what an awesome woman she is.

Her most recent origin story saw her trained and brainwashed by the KGB. She became an assassin and went up against the likes of Iron Man initially, before becoming a hero – her difficult life and messed up head only serving to emphasise how strong she must be to come out of it all as a good person and a superheroine. It would be great to see it on screen.

8- Give Skye Superpowers

Skye’s origins in the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. television series are somewhat hazy.

It was initially revealed that Skye’s parents were killed trying to protect their Chinese village and, in turn, trying to protect Skye from an attack by some “monsters”. However, it was later confirmed that Skye’s parents were actually the monsters in question and there has been a lot of insinuation that at least one of them was an alien.

In the climatic scenes of season one of the show, Raina (the Girl in the Flower Dress) approached someone who appeared to be a man and handed him a photo of Skye, claiming to him that she’d found his daughter. The man’s hand was dripping with blood, but that was the last we’ve seen of him so far.

Skye has been hinted as being everyone from She-Hulk to Ms. Marvel and from Mantis to Spider-Woman but, regardless, if she gets superpowers it will give her a whole new dimension and enable Phil Coulson’s team to combat more powerful threats than ever.

7 - Make Thanos Get His Hands Dirty

Thanos, even in the comic books, has a habit of using others to do his dirty work for him; Mephisto, the Blood Brothers, Mangog and the Thanosi have all been utilised as his henchman, even if they didn’t see it that way.

So far in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thanos appears to be the same kind of back-seat villain. He has, thus far, utilised the likes of Loki, the Other, the Chitauri, Ronan, Korath, Nebula and Gamora to his dirty work while he sits on his space throne and dishes out orders.

He must be very powerful to be able to do this, but we are yet to see that power so he doesn’t yet have the oomph behind him to be a believable threat to the combined might of the likes of Thor, Hulk and Iron Man. Therefore, he really needs to get his hands dirty and show what he’s capable of physically.

A single show of extreme power would be all it would take – perhaps he could vaporise someone who had previously been shown to be extremely durable. However it’s done, he must show off his power soon so that we can see how truly awesome he is.

6 - Have Loki Use Some Real Magic

Loki has undoubtedly been great so far. Tom Hiddleston has portrayed the character with cunning, charisma, fiendishness and finesse and he has garnered many fans as a result.

However, his powers have actually been extremely underwhelming. Apart from having the obviously enhanced physical attributes of a Frost Giant/Asgardian, he has only really displayed an ability to cast illusions under his own power. Nothing else, in terms of magic, has really been worth mentioning – and that makes him a far cry from his mystically formidable comic book self.

We need to see more from him. In the comics, he can fly, has telepathy, can astral project his mind, can teleport, hypnotise people, fire energy blasts, rearrange matter, cast spells and invoke the power of otherworldly demons and beings. The Marvel Cinematic Universe version would become much more of a believable threat if he started displaying just some of those abilities.

5 - Give Hulk His Armour

This wouldn’t exactly enhance Hulk as a character or make him more powerful, but it would certainly make him look more like a warrior, rather than a big green guy in a pair of trousers.

In the comic books, Hulk has worn various armours over the years, ranging from full body armours to armours that cover just one arm and it makes sense for Bruce Banner – one of the most intelligent men in the Marvel universe – to come up with a way for his alter-ego not to essentially be half naked after every transformation.

Mark Ruffalo’s version of Banner spoke about how exposed he is as the Hulk, like a nerve ending being touched whenever he gets hit, and this would rectify that issue while simply making him look a hell of a lot cooler and more formidable as well.

4 - Put Thor Into Berserker Mode

Thor is clearly a very formidable warrior in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and he has hundreds of years of successful battles behind him. However, he is yet to show the kind of ruthless streak that renders him as feared around the universe as he is in the comics – and that could be rectified with a single statement from the Asgardian hero.

In the comic books, Thor is capable of invoking a mode called Berserker Rage, in which he focuses all of his energy on the battle at hand and becomes ten times stronger than he usually is. This obviously results in him being able to combat and defeat more powerful foes than he would otherwise be able to go up against.

In the event of Thor fighting the likes of Surtur or Thanos in the future, if he was to go in to this mode and give such beings of massive power a hard time, he would become even more epic than he already is shown as being.

3 - Show That Odin’s Power Dwarfs Thor’s

Odin is one of the most powerful characters in Marvel comic books. The Allfather is capable of destroying galaxies as a mere side effect of his most brutal battles – such as the battles he had with the likes of Set and Infinity – and his power is so much greater than his son’s that it isn’t even questionable.

However, so far at least, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he’s yet to display anything like that kind of power and that somewhat takes away from the character’s impact. Those viewers not familiar with the comic books would think Odin was less powerful than his son, going by what they’ve seen.

Odin really needs to step up when the universe is in dire need in the future – such as when Thanos gets the Infinity Gauntlet – so we can truly see what he’s capable of.

2. Show Off Nick Fury’s Prep Skills

Nick Fury has been pretty damn badass so far. He’s displayed formidable combat prowess, bravery and resourcefulness and Samuel L. Jackson has played him brilliantly.

However, what we’re yet to see from him is the truly ridiculous levels of preparatory work and planning the character from the comics puts in so that he can save himself from and counter almost any eventuality.

Take his role in the Age of Ultron comic book arc, for instance. Amidst all the chaos caused by Ultron’s attempts to take over the planet, Fury had made his way to the Savage Land in Antarctica, where he had a secret base that had plans and equipment for that exact eventuality. He was, therefore, able to gather a group of heroes to counter Ultron’s plot – and it worked.

If Fury can show that level of foresight, planning and resourcefulness, he will become even more useful and awesome than he has already shown – which is pretty cool for a human in a world of super-powered villains.

1 - Give Captain America A Hero’s Death

Captain America has already proven himself to be more than willing to go the extra mile.

From jumping on what he thought was a live grenade in his first movie, to attacking Loki head-on in Stuttgart in the Avengers movie and taking down jets on his own in his second movie, he is brave and heroic to the extreme.

Footage from Comic Con of his next appearance in Age of Ultron shows that this has very nearly made him worthy enough to wield Mjolnir – Cap being the only Avenger other than Thor himself who was capable of even budging it.

The only way to make Cap even more awesome is to give him the most heroic of deaths – and that could come in the form of facing up to an Infinity Gauntlet-wielding Thanos in the third Avengers movie. Cap did this in the comic, despite the fact he was basically standing up to God, and it was awesome. The same would apply on film.

At first, I thought this was a PredatoRIsing Editorial because of the enormous teaser...

You just copy-pasted an article from another site. I'm pretty sure this is against the rules.

Dude.

(a) That's not a teaser
(b) You can't copy and paste someone else's work. At the very least, paraphrase.

This happened with your last article as well, I understand you've struggled with grammar in the past, but copying other people's articles isn't the answer. Sorry man :/

If you're going to flat out break the rules don't admit it in the aritcles, thats like a guy walking up to the security of a bank and telling him "i just robbed you" you just don't do that man.
