The second series for the superhero "Kick-Ass" is not exactly what you remember from the first. At some points I feel like Mark Millar just puts in such controversial scenes for the sake of being a shock jocky, yet at some points I don't feel like hes getting enough credit from fans. First of all: this isn't the Kick-Ass you remember. Keep that in mind if you're looking for more "Three assholes, laying into one guy while everybody else watches? And you wanna know what's wrong with me? Yeah, I'd rather die... so bring it on!", you've come to the wrong place. This go's much beyond that.
It all starts with a bad ass Karate Kid scene, where Mindy is training with Dave. When her step-father figures out that shes still in the superhero business, shes forced to quit. And that's very important to the story line. Had Mindy continued her crusade as Hitgirl, there may have never been a gang of super villains. Maybe Katie's neighborhood wouldn't have gotten slaughtered. Maybe Dave's dad wouldn't have been murdered. And that's what I like. Even after that, she refuses to come back. Its only after the villains invade Dave's dad's funeral, and Dave gets kidnapped, that shes pushed over the edge. Its almost "The Dark Hitgirl Rises".
The Joker has done some pretty nasty things, but I don't believe I've ever seen him slaughter an entire neighborhood (children included), and that's what I like about "The Motherf%#r". If there was ever a real super villain, that would be him. There are no death-rays or cosmic cubes, there are guns.
Justice Forever was just amazing. That's all I have to say about it.
To enjoy this series, you have to be able to handle the controversial elements that make it what it is. In the end, its your decision whether the series is good or not.
