Seth Rogen Comments On WB/DC's Supposed "No Jokes" Policy

The comedian of Neighbors and This Is The End fame seems to have just debunked the recent rumors. Check it out.

Recently, speculation suggesting that Warner Bros. has issued a "no jokes" policy on their DC properties has picked up. While the phrase could mean a number of things, at face value it sounds fairly absurd to apply that to 10+ writers and their films. But the rumor has been given life by outlets such as Badass Digest and Hitfix.

Seth Rogen (The Interview, Pineapple Express) has commented on the topic and offered his own denial of the rumor.

Was Rogen, perhaps with his writing partner Evan Goldberg, approached for a DC superhero property? That may be a stretch. Regardless, Rogen is firmly entrenched in Hollywood circles and seems like he could have more insight on the topic than movie bloggers.

You’ll notice that he calls bullshit on SlashFilm’s headline “Warner Bros. rules out funny superhero movies.” That would seem to refute everything from the literal interpretation of "zero jokes allowed” to the more general interpretation of “no funny superhero movies.” And while you may think that Rogen is simply misplacing any directives he has received on his upcoming Preacher series, keep in mind that Preacher is being produced by Sony, not Warner Bros.

What do you think?

Well technically Preacher is a Dc property, so i assume by saying it's bullshit that he's saying they never implemnted that rule also meaning that the Preacher series, or at least the pilot, will have some humor in it.

Rogan is definitely going to know more than McWeeny, but that won't stop people for complaining.

Re: Preacher stuff.
Despite it being Vertigo, I don't think that Preacher is a WBTV production. It may be from Sony TV. I could be wrong.

Yeah there's no way WB/DC would set a ridiculous rule like this for their movies, especially with characters like the Flash and Shazam. The DC universe as a whole will be more serious than the MCU, but they're not just gonna leave out humor completely.

Rogen confirmed for Jimmy Olsen?

Well, either him, or Jonah Hill . . .

What's unfortunate, however, is that I would not have been surprised if WB had set this rule . . .

No jokes doesn't mean no humour. You can have humour without jokes.
The humour in GOTG was way too overwhelming, I like DC's tone with their movies, their characters have always required less humour.

Marvel with Cap 2 had a different tone than normal marvel movies which was amazing.

They are doing Preacher and that definitely will have jokes so the "no jokes policy" was a obvious lie.

@TheBuoyWonder

That actually sounds okay. As long as it's not a stoner comedy.

Ugh. Fanboys have a tendency of latching onto the most literal details, and if they aren't proved to be 100% true, it's suddenly debunked (i.e. Badass Digest saying Wayne would be in his 50's, elsewhere it was confirmed he's in his late 40's, people went "HA! Debunked!", and completely missed that the entire point is that this is going to be an older Bruce Wayne).

Same situation here. It's not so much as whether or not WB/DC actually has a literal "NO JOKES" policy...it's the fact that so many people can actually believe that to be true. Once again, it's about PERCEPTION. People see other comic book movies as hilarious, fun times at the theaters. But when it comes to WB/DC, they see it as dark, moody, dour, and depressing...which makes it REAL easy to believe a rumor like this.

Point is: whether this is true or not, WB/DC has a long way to go to fix their perception in the public's eye.

I know you're joking but I actually wouldn't mind Rogen as Olsen. As long as he actually has character and isn't cheap comedic relief.
