Comic-Con 2018: Here Are All The Biggest Reveals And Newsworthy Moments From Day Three
Day three of Comic-Con was the biggest yet and we're now recapping all the stories you may have seen along with some you probably haven't, including news on Kim Possible, Big Hero 6, Venom, and more...
Comic-Con is wrapping up in San Diego and yesterday saw a lot of huge news items land online. We covered most of these on the site but there's a lot here which we didn't get time to touch on so this is your definitive guide to everything that happened at the event on Saturday. It was a very busy day so we have news, trailers, and first looks for you for a huge number of exciting TV shows and movies.
From new details about Wonder Woman 1984 to the first trailers for everything from Aquaman to The Flash season four, we had a lot of digest, including intel on The LEGO Movie 2, Disney's live-action Kim Possible (we have a first look at the live-action version of the hero below), and even video from some panels. So, to take a look, all you guys have to do is click on the "View List" button down below.
Johnny Depp Hits The Stage As Grindelwald
Despite the controversy surrounding Johnny Depp's role in the Fantastic Beast franchise, fans in Hall H were very excited to see him yesterday when he hit the stage in character as the villainous Grindelwald. "I do not hate them. I do not," he told the audience. "I say the Muggles are not lesser. Not worthless, but of other value. Magic blooms only in rare souls. It is granted to those who live for higher things." You can check out his full speech - and a magic trick - in thevery cool video above.
Meet Mini-Max
This one flew under the radar yesterday but fans at Comic-Con were treated to a new look at the Disney Channel's upcoming Big Hero 6: The Series. As you can see, Mini-Max has been revealed as a scrappy new addition to the superhero team but is anyone else getting serious Scrappy Doo vibes?
Agent Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Makes Jeff Ward A Regular
With season six of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. quite some time away, there wasn't a whole lot revealed about the show at Comic-Con but we did find out the Clark Gregg is going to direct the premiere and that Jeff Ward (who plays the time-displaced grandson of Fitz and Simmons) has now been upped to a series regular. That opening episode is going to be titled "Missing Pieces" so make of that what you will.
The First Trailer For Aquaman Surfaces
As promised, Warner Bros. delivered the first trailer for Aquaman yesterday and it definitely didn't disappoint. Yes, there's the odd example of unfinished CGI but that's to be expected with a movie which isn't out for another five months and everything else looks fantastic. You can find an in-depth breakdown of the trailer by clicking here as we delve into all the biggest moments and Easter Eggs.
Chris Pratt Lands A Second Role In The LEGO Movie 2
Avengers: Infinity War star Chris Pratt will obviously return as Emmet in The Lego Movie 2 but it was revealed yesterday that the actor actually has a second role in the movie. Apparently, he'll be playing Rex Dangervest, a pastiche of many of his previous roles. A clip showed the character surrounded by raptors but he also dons a jetpack and costume that's clearly inspired by his Star-Lord appearance.
Kim Possible Makes Her Live-Action Debut
Disney surprised fans at the Big Hero 6: The Series panel by revealing a first look at the upcoming live-action Kim Possible. Sadie Stanley will be playing the red-headed action hero and she will be joined by Sean Giambrone as Ron Stoppable, Isaac Ryan Brown as Wade, Todd Stashwick and Taylor Ortega as Kim’s nemeses Dr. Drakken and Shego, and Alyson Hannigan as Kim’s mother. Looks pretty good, right?
Super Troopers 3 Is Officially In The Works
Earlier this year, the crowd-funded Super Troopers 2 exceeded expectations at the box office and the Broken Lizard comedy troupe told fans at their Comic-Con panel that they are indeed working on a third instalment. Tentatively titled Super Troopers: Winter Soldiers, the follow-up won't be asking fans for their hard earned money because the $4.6 million it made will more than cover those costs.
Godzilla: King Of The Monsters Is Unleashed
I really enjoyed 2014's Godzilla but let's be honest, we probably see more of the titular monster in this trailer than we did in that entire first instalment! That's not all, though, as the iconic beast is joined by a number of other creatures and while this sneak peek was light on fresh details, it did at least make it very clear that we're in for an epic adventure which will set the stage for Godzilla vs. Kong in 2020.
DC's Animated Slate For 2019
While we know that Reign of the Supermen will be released next year, it was also revealed that Batman: Hush is set to receive an animated adaptation. The studio is also working on a couple of original adventures as we're getting Justice League vs. The Fatal Five and Wonder Woman: Bloodlines, a title many fans believe will either be tied to Wonder Woman 1984 or the DC Universe service.
New Wonder Woman 1984 Details
Patty Jenkins, Gal Gadot, and Chris Pine all appeared at Comic-Con to promote the sequel and some rough footage was shown which has been described by those in attendance as bright, cheerful, and even a little bit goofy. There was nothing really in there that we haven't already seen in set photos and due to the fact it was pretty rough, there are no plans for it to be released online as of right now.
What really has fans talking is the fact that both Jenkins and Gadot have said Wonder Woman 1984 isn't a sequel and that it's going to be standalone in nature. We have no news on Steve Trevor's return!
Warner Bros. Conjures Up A New Fantastic Beasts Trailer
This wasn't the best trailer to come out of Comic-Con but it left Harry Potter fans with plenty to talk about, including the fact that we're going to meet Nicolas Flamel, an alchemist who famously succeeded in creating the Sorcerer's Stone (or Philosopher's Stone if you live outside the US). Jude Law looks very comfortable as the young Dumbledore and this one definitely has a lot of potential.
A Leaked Look At Venom Will Give You Nightmares
We learned that the new Venom trailer shown on Friday won't be released online for a few weeks due to uncompleted VFX but a leaked photo has surfaced - which you can see here - featuring a fresh look at the monstrous symbiote. He looks terrifying and very much like his comic book counterpart.
Shazam! Surprises Us With The First Trailer
Heading into Comic-Con, we didn't expect to see much from Shazam! beyond a behind the scenes sizzle reel of some sort but Warner Bros. surprised all of us with an epic first trailer which offered a great look at what we should expect from the DC Comics adaptation. With a very different tone, it's clear that this will be a DC Comics movie like no other and it will be interesting seeing whether or not the studio will have pulled that off, especially as the character is so different to the likes of Batman.
If you want to learn more about the trailer, be sure to take a look at our breakdown right here.
A First Look At The Gifted Season 2
We don't know how much life The Gifted has left in it now that the Fox/Disney merger is happening but season two will return this fall and that means we have a trailer which shows Reed Strucker manifesting his powers after having had them repressed, Polaris going into labor; Blink meeting the Morlocks, Eclipse unleashing his powers, and Reeva Payge running the Hellfire Club’s Inner Circle.
Lobo Is Coming To Krypton Season 2
Production hasn't started on Krypton quite yet but it was revealed during the show's panel that Doomsday will finally surface in season two and the big bad will be Lobo! Considering the fact that we got a comic book accurate take on Brainiac earlier this year, it's a safe bet that he'll end up looking like he's been torn straight off the page and that's something obviously well worth being excited about.
DC TV Trailers
A wealth of new details about Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, and Black Lightning were revealed at Comic-Con and we'll let you check those out by clicking here, here, here, here, or here (we're talking about everything from new casting additions to lead villains so it's well worth taking a look). Below, though, you can check out the new trailers for each of The CW's beloved DC TV shows.
