Chances are you may not of heard of Raju Rai (AKA Chakra the Invincible), the Mumbaikar boy genius in a super suit who protects the citizens of Mumbai from all manner of super-villian, but he is relatively popular in Southeast Asia with both a comic book series and a Cartoon Network animated feature.
Chakra the Invincible is one of Stan Lee’s more successful post-Marvel creations and his first POW! Entertainment property to make it to the big screen. The character was created in 2011 by Lee and co-creators Sharad Devarajan and Gotham Chopra to appeal directly to the Indian market.
The film will be directed by Vikramaditya Motwane from a script develop by Stan Lee Alongside co-creator Sharad Devarajan.
With the upcoming Russian super hero film ‘Zaschitniki’ (Guardians) and now this, could we be seeing a global trend towards more big screen superhero outings? Considering the unprecedented box office success of the MCU and the $850 million that Batman Vs Superman has pulled in despite its negative critical reception, all spurred by takings from the global marketing, it’s probably not surprising that domestic territories would be looking to cut their own slice of the superhero pie.
