Marvel Studios regained the rights to Daredevil in the 2010s when 20th Century Fox turned down an offer to keep the Man Without Fear in exchange for Galactus and the Silver Surfer joining the MCU.
A Netflix TV series followed and Charlie Cox, who has since reprised the role in Spider-Man: No Way Home, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and Echo, will return as Matt Murdock in Disney+'s Daredevil: Born Again.
Now, it's been confirmed by the streamer that 'ol Hornhead's first live-action outing - 2003's Daredevil - is set to arrive on Disney+ on Wednesday, May 1.
The movie drew mixed reviews from critics when it was released and earned $180 million at the worldwide box office (which, at the time, made it a hit and the second-biggest February release ever).
Ben Affleck played Daredevil and was joined by Jennifer Garner as Elektra, Colin Farrell as Bullseye, and the late Michael Clarke Duncan as Wilson Fisk/The Kingpin. Jon Favreau, who would go on to direct Iron Man, played Foggy Nelson.
"The character I played was a superhero, and there was loads of fantastical stuff attached to that, but that was less interesting to learn about than really learning what it felt like to be a person who had lost their sight, how they experienced the world, how their other sense changed," Affleck previously said of starring in Daredevil.
"One of the things that I really cared about in that movie was not just looking blind or coming across as blind but knowing what it felt like. [Tom Sullivan] was really patient with me. He helped me understand something that I found really interesting artistically," he continued. "I thought that was the most interesting thing about the movie, frankly. A lot of the other stuff was kinda silly."
Affleck doubled down on that sentiment in an even earlier interview when he said, "Daredevil didn’t work at all. That was before people realised you could make these movies and make them well. There was a cynical sense of ‘put a red leather outfit on a guy, have him run around, hunt some bad guys, and cash the cheque.'"
The actor has also been quoted as stating, "I hate Daredevil so much."
Unsurprisingly, Affleck isn't expected to reprise the role in Deadpool & Wolverine, though the trades have reported that Garner is being lined up to return as Elektra.
