JUNGLE CRUISE Sequel Officially In The Works With Emily Blunt & Dwayne Johnson Set To Return

Thanks to some solid legs at the box office and a decent haul on Disney+ Premier Access, it looks like Disney is moving forward with a Jungle Cruise sequel starring Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Walt Disney Studios is in the very early stages of developing a sequel to recent fantasy adventure film Jungle Cruise, with both Dwayne Johnson (Black Adam; Hobbs & Shaw) and Emily Blunt (Edge of TomorrowA Quiet Place) set to reprise their roles as skipper Frank Wolff and Dr. Lily Houghton, respectively.

Director Jaume Collet-Serra, who recently wrapped Johnson's DC Comics superhero vehicle Black Adam, is also expected to return to helm the follow-up along with Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Michael Green (Logan; Blade Runner 2049), who co-wrote the first installment.

Jungle Cruise recently crossed $100 million at the domestic box office, bringing its worldwide total to an estimated $187 million, and earned over $30 million on Disney+ Premier Access in its first three days of release, according to Disney. While those aren't exactly ideal numbers for a $200 million production in normal times, it looks like the House of Mouse was happy enough with its pandemic-era release - as well as the positive audience reception - to move forward with a sequel.

It's unclear when production could potentially get rolling, but next year isn't necessarily an unrealistic possibility if Disney chooses to fast-track the project, as Johnson currently has a rare opening in his schedule with multiple projects in various stages of development. Meanwhile, Blunt is in the midst of filming the Amazon/BBC miniseries The English, but doesn't have any films currently lined up, so she'll likely have some availability next summer as well.

@Mrtoke - I guess the streaming numbers are doing well. All these streaming services don't have to report any numbers so they can hide the actual money it makes and cheat talent out of bonuses.

@Matchesz - I'm surprised Wakanda looked as good as it did in the first Black Panther considering how much green screen was used on set in Atlanta, but I'm guessing locations are easier to create artistically then 'two dudes punch for a bit.'

@TyrantBossMedia - it's clear based all the comments you've made about this film that you wanted it to suck really bad. But when it gets good reviews and reactions from the vast majority you claim it's because people are afraid is Disney 😂😂 yeah, you're trash.

LMFAO.

The chicks the trades were naming that could follow suit with ScarJo clearly aren't now.

Disney really left ScarJo alone in that lawsuit.

@Roodi - United they could have stood... divided they may fall.

Tough one though, given that Disney may eventually end up being the biggest game in town.

I'm not too bothered about ScarJo (I mean she deserves what shes owed & was agreed upon), but the precedent is bad for almost every other talent working in the industry.

Still haven’t watched this, I’ll wait until it’s free on Disney Plus and I’ll probably do the same with the sequel
