When the teaser trailer for Disney's "live-action" retelling of The Lion King dropped last Thursday, many criticized it for how similar it looked to the original - but Jon Favreau's adaptation won't be sticking too closely to that animated classic, it seems.

According to Variety, Amy Sedaris (BoJack Horseman, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) will be voicing a brand new character that did not appear in the cartoon. Though the trade doesn't provide a name for this new critter, they do reveal that the animal she'll be playing is an African elephant shrew.

The recent teaser generated a whopping 224.6 million global views, making it the second most-viewed trailer in history within 24 hours. If you missed it the first time around, click HERE to take a look.

The Lion King roars into theaters on July 19, 2019.

Also, she kind of looks like an older Hayley Atwell in the thumbnail.

So you're saying this isn't a direct copy? What a surprise!

Now for real, I am really interested in how they are gonna adapt hamlet with lions for modern audiences

Cool, something i loved from Jungle Book is how close they kept it to the animated movie, a bit closer to the book vibes and yet still made some changes, like the elephants not being a marching army, but creators and protectors of the jungle, almost like they were jungle's deity to be respected upon, love that.

Maybe this character will be a different situation from the elephants, but is nice to see new additons to a loved story and film.

"but Jon Favreau's adaptation won't be sticking too closely to that animated classic, it seems." Just because they added a new character? For all we know, she only has one scene.

Hopefully the people who complained that they didn't want a shot-for-shot adaption don't start complaining about original characters now.

She was incredible in the first season of The Heart, She Holler, which is one of the best things to ever exist IMO.

@satanicbatman - err..SECOND season I mean. She replaced Kristen Schaal as the same character. Loved both of their takes on it.
