I'm not going to lie, I just don't see the appeal in this, but I'll give it a shot nonetheless. The audio doesn't look to be in harmony with the lion's mouth movement or maybe it just looks unnatural.

I'm intrigued to see timon and pumbaa the most.

@MyCoolYoung - To give it the benefit of a doubt, I think some of the fast editing necessary for a trailer/tv spot hinders it, maybe in context of the film, it'll be much better. But I was never excited for this movie like I was for The Jungle Book, because you do have a real human being in the movie. The Lion King is all animals, so the expressions and emotions won't be fully realized on the cgi animals.

What a mess. I will be shocked if the film gets good reviews. I stan for Beyonce, but isn't a good voice actor or actor in general.

@solargeknowles - I agree. She's pretty meh as an actress. I think the movie is akin to watching animals on the discovery Channel and the charm from the animated series seems to be missing, but people said that about Aladdin and I did enjoy that.

I'll give the film the benefit of the doubt through and through and I'll watch and decide for myself.

@MyCoolYoung - It's the one thing I've noticed so far about the trailers, they haven't really shown any close up shots of the animals talking or emoting. That's the one thing I'm most curious about seeing in this movie... they're going for ultra realistic looking animals that talk and sing. It'll be interesting to see how they meld that together without it looking odd. Jon did a good job with that in The Jungle Book, but the animals were slightly more stylistic, The Lion King looks to be a step up in terms of photo realism.

@bcom - they did take a step up in realism and I don't know why. I would've thought the roles were reversed. Jungle book could've went to that and lion king more stylistic, but as you said they've yet to show the animals so hopefully it's a big reveal

This looks really good. I don't get the hate for 'live action remakes'. It's just a different iteration of the original source. The greatest stories, legends, and myths have been told, re-told, and put into different iterations through history. It's nothing new.

Do people boycott the Lion King broadway play simply because it's not the animated film? No of course not. It's just a different iteration. Same with this film and with all the different remakes.

I always knew that how different the live action Lion King would be from the original would come down to how they do Scar (as he's the driving force of the story). It seems like this Scar is much more of a Thanos rather than a Loki like the original was. Sure you lose a lot of that devilish lovable charm of Jeremy Irons, but there might be something special in its place with Chiwetel Ejiofor's new take.

@Brave - Since they brought back James Earl Jones (well, no one else can match that voice) it would've been cool if they also bought back Jeremy Irons. I have no doubt that Chiwetel will do a good job, but Jeremy Irons was as iconic as Scar as James Earl Jones was a Mufasa.

I totally get the complaints that the faces don't show the same emotion that the animated version did. It's a legit concern.

That said, anyone who thinks the CGI is anything less than super impressive is obviously biased. The animals look as close to being real as is humanly possible right now.

It's probably the fact that I'm used to Jeremy irons, but chiwetels voice is too high pitched for an evil character like scar. Doesn't sound scary or anything to be taken seriously, especially when he shouts. He's a great actor, but in terms of voice acting for this character, these are pretty big shoes to fill.

They obviously chose to take this character to a different place and rightly so, but we need to wait and see if it worked...
