ETERNALS Director Chloé Zhao Reveals Whether Any Of The Heroes Were Snapped Out Of Existence - SPOILERS

There's been a lot of speculation about whether the Eternals were among those dusted by Thanos when he snapped his fingers in Avengers: Infinity War, and director Chloé Zhao now sets the record straight.

While Avengers: Endgame brought the Infinity Saga to a close, fans have remained keen to learn more about the aftermatch of Thanos' attack on Earth. Spider-Man: Far From Home mostly glossed over the fallout from the Blip, as have the likes of WandaVision and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

That's not to say it hasn't been addressed, of course, but it's clear Marvel Studios doesn't plan to waste too much time delving into the five years half of humanity was missing.

In Eternals, we don't learn whether any of those immortal heroes turned to dust when Thanos snapped his fingers, but director Chloé Zhao has cleared things up. "Well, I can't say this out loud, but if you think about...if you think about what the Celestials told them," she told Cinema Blend. "If you think about what the Celestials told them about themselves, technically they can't get blipped."

If you can't read between the lines there, Zhao is referring to the fact that the Eternals are synthetic beings created by Arishem. In other words, they're basically even more advanced than The Vision, and because they're not organic, the Mad Titan unleashing the Power of the Infinity Stones would have no impact on them.

It would have been interesting to see how the Eternals responded to half the planet vanishing, but we know there's nothing they could have done about it because the Celestials tasked them with only interfering when the Deviants attacked. Earth's Mightiest Heroes also killed Thanos just weeks after he snapped his fingers, so by that point, there was little need for them to interfere.

Eternals is currently playing in theaters. Check out our Easter Egg breakdown by clicking here.

I'm not that familiar with the comics (and haven't seen the movie), but now that I think about it: are the Eternals created in the image of humans? And if so, does that mean the Eternals on other worlds resemble the dominant species on those planets?

@bkmeijer - they seem to be based on Gods in our mythology, meaning humans were made in their image.

@bkmeijer - In the comics the Celestials tamper with early hominids to create three distinct species: Eternals, Humans and Deviants.

(they also give humans the genetic potential to become either Deviants or Eternals leading to Mutants, Inhumans, Vampires, Werewolves, Mutates/Superhumans, etc)

@Origame GwenLantern - think I rather prefer it if they just let evolution for what it is in the movies then though.

Can see Celestials or Eternals mingling with humans (kinda like Ego and Meridith) that creates mutations work better.

That sequence when Arishem tells Sersi about their real mission has to be one of the most haunting and visually nuts things we've gotten in a cbm.

@WakandanQueen - I loved it, despite it's deviation from the comics. It was like dark SF.
It also features the third major DC reference, since Zhao totally lifted 'The World Forge' from Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo's Dark Nights: Metal.

This makes no sense. If Eternals can't get blipped, then, Thanos can't get blipped, because Thanos IS an Eternal. and if Thanos can't get Blipped, well then, Endgame is messed up.

@DarkeyeZ - you’re misunderstanding. The snap thanos made was to erase half of all Life in the universe. Tony’s snap was to erase thanos and his army, so because the eternals aren’t actually “life” they can’t be snapped like how a car wouldn’t have been snapped

Wondered about them. They’re technically closer to robots than life forms (even they admit this in the movie) so I guess sentient nonbiological life in the universe definitely had an advantage. Ultron be happy!

This is exactly what I assumed, based on the information the movie gave us.

I was gonna say I would think not considering.
