In Eternals' post-credits scene, Harry Styles made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Eros/Starfox. It was strongly hinted that he would be the one to help Thena, Makkari, and Druig find Sersi, Phastos, and Kingo after they were taken from Earth by Arishem for their role in stopping Tiamut's emergence.
Eternals came out at a time when the box office was still struggling to recover from the worst of the pandemic, while negative reviews resulted in it being deemed Marvel Studios' first "Rotten" movie. As a result, we don't know if a sequel is a priority, though we'd hate to see such a massive cliffhanger left unresolved!
While Kevin Feige has hinted that there are future plans for Eros, Styles cast some doubt on his return during a recent interview with Rolling Stone.
Pondering what might be next in his acting career, he said "It’d be funny if that was it, wouldn’t it?" The actor was joking, but admits that he's in no rush to become a movie star. "I don’t imagine I’d do a movie for a while. I think there’ll be a time again when I’ll crave it."
"But when you’re making music, something’s happening. It feels really creative, and it feeds stuff. A large part of acting is the doing nothing, waiting thing," Styles continues. "Which if that’s the worst part, then it’s a pretty good job. But I don’t find that section of it to be that fulfilling. I like doing it in the moment, but I don’t think I’ll do it a lot."
The door clearly isn't closed on him returning as Eros, though it doesn't sound like we should necessarily expect him to become a character who shows up in multiple MCU movies. Marvel Studios will no doubt enlist Styles for something down the line, but he doesn't appear to have any significant aspirations to become a huge Hollywood star.
That's not overly surprising given how successful a singing career he has, but fingers crossed we learn more about future plans for the Eternals franchise during next month's D23.
