Deleted scenes are par for the course with any big movie, though the release of that "Infinity Saga" box set drove home the fact Marvel Studios has been holding out on us in a huge way.
There were moments included there we never knew had been put on film, and it stands to reason there are even more hidden deep within the confines of the studio's Los Angeles offices. Now, it appears we know of at least one, but this is a little more recent. In the Eternals teaser trailer, Lia McHugh's Sprite could be seen drunkenly singing karaoke on what we'd later learn was Kingo's private jet, but there was no sign of that in the movie itself or on the upcoming Blu-ray's list of deleted scenes.
It could eventually see the light of day, but when we recently caught up with Lia (check out the full interview below), we had to ask what that scene consisted of. "[Laughs] I did have to sing karaoke for that. That was the funniest day ever because I had to…I don’t think I’m a great singer, but I had to sing in front of Angelina Jolie," she recalls. "Barry [Keoghan] and Kumail [Nanjiani] were there. It was super embarrassing."
"I remember I did a take [Laugh] and Chloé [Zhao] came up to me was like, ‘Wait, are you trying to sing badly?’ I wasn’t trying to sing bad, but said, ‘Yeah. Yeah, I was. Let me do it again,'" McHugh recalled. "It was so embarrassing and everyone was just dying. Afterwards, I realised it was just the most embarrassing moment of my life."
That sounds like one heck of an experience for the young actress, and it is a shame this was cut as it feels like it might have given us the opportunity to learn more about how Sprite's tragic circumstances affect her. You can hear more about that in our exclusive conversation with the actress, and McHugh also tells us "there were some other things we shot that were cut" elaborating on her dynamic with Richard Madden's Ikaris and Sprite's unrequited love for him.
This is the nature of the beast with a blockbuster like Eternals, of course, but here's hoping those are revealed down the line (many fans have already shared their hopes for a director's cut).
Eternals is now available on Digital and will be available on 4K, Blu-ray and DVD February 15.
