Back in 2009, I've decided to cast some of the major players in the DC Comics universe, however, this article features characters related directly with Batman. Not every character will be cast and not every cast may correspond with the current Batman movie franchise. This is my first fan cast (I've only just learn how to post articles recently) so please don't butcher me. Thanks. Anyway… enjoy!
NOTE:My fan cast is base primarily on the outer appearance of the actors/actresses because (naturally) I did not examine the acting ability of every single actor/actress.
The Good Guys
Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman
Personally, I really like how Christian Bale portrayed both Batman and Bruce Wayne so I won't fix what isn't broken.
Josh Hartnett as Dick Grayson/Nightwing
I really don't know much about him besides from "Pearl Harbor" (and we all know how that movie turned out) but he definitely has the look down pat.
Garrett Hedlund as Jason Todd/Red Hood
I really like his performance in "Four Brothers" and I think he has the potential to play a twisted, brooding character.
Josh Hutcherson as Tim Drake/Robin
I chose Josh Hutcherson as Robin simply because I don't know who else within his age range could play such a "important" sidekick. If you're wondering about Logan Lerman...read below.
Logan Lerman as Damian Wayne
He had a chance to play Tim Drake but base on his portrayal in "Gamer" I felt he had the chops to play a more no-nonsense guy than Josh Hutcherson so I casted him as Damian.
Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth
No explanation needed. I think he is doing a terrific job as the loyal butler.
Kate Mara as Barbara Gordon/Oracle
I'm having a hard time pinpointing her acting chops but she definitely has the look and age to play Barbara. If you're wondering where's Amy Adam, I believe I casted her as an another character within my shared universe (not in the Batman franchise).
Gary Oldman as James Gordon
Once again, he is a great actor doing a great job as the Commissioner.
Diora Baird as Kate Kane/Batwoman
This casting was purely based on looks because I've actually never seen her act. But she looks like she can play a socialite within Gotham's elite.
Nina Dobrev as Cassandra Cain/Batgirl
Personally I don't like my own choice for Batgirl but I forgot to cast her until this moment and I've run out of actresses to cast as her. And I know she's suppose to be (at least half) Asian however I couldn't find an Asian actress that I haven't casted yet so if you got a better choice, please let me know.
Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox
It was as if the character of Lucius Fox was made for Morgan Freeman...
Linus Roache as Thomas Wayne
I felt I should just keep with the continuity of the Nolan series. It's not a big part anyway. Maybe he can sport a mustache...
Sara Stewart as Martha Wayne
Ditto for her...just keeping with the continuity of the Nolan series. It's not a big part anyway.
Emmanuelle Chriqui as Talia Al' Ghul
Having seen her in several movies, for me she personifies a badass girl. This role would be a lot like her character in Fast&Furious in that she's torn in her loyalty to family and lover.
Cloris Leachman as Leslie Thompkins
I actually have to credit this casting to someone else but it's been so long since I saw this that I'm not sure to give credit to. Nonetheless, thanks to who ever originally casted Cloris Leachman as Leslie Thompkins.
The Bad Guys
Heath Ledger as the Joker
Heath Ledger (currently decease) played the Joker better than I can possibly have imagine. It's a shame it had to be one of his last role because he is truly an amazing actor.
Brittany Murphy as Harley Quinn
(Unfortunately fittingly) I feel like Brittany Murphy could've pulled off a Harley Quinn worthy to match Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker. Plus she definitely has the looks to play falsely-innocence Harley Quinn.
Kate Beckinsale as Catwoman
Even if she isn't the best actress, I really like Kate Beckinsale's performance in various movies (Underworld & sequel, Van Helsing) and I feel like she has the right look to play the seductive Selina Kyle.
Liam Neeson as Ra's Al Ghul
He played a great Ra's in Batman Begin and I can't imagine anyone else playing the character better.
John Malkovich as Mister Freeze
John Malkovich definitely has the acting chop to play the creepy Mr. Freeze with the twisted, intelligence that he should have. Who would really believe that Arnold Schwarzenegger is a scientist?
Lucy Liu as Lady Shiva
I wanted an Asian actress who was of the proper age (and could serve as a mother to Cassandra Cain) and also kick-ass. The first person to mind was Lucy so I decided to cast her especially since Charlie's Angels immediately comes to mind when I think of her.
Derek Mears as Bane
Personally, I don't think Bane needs to be played by someone with incredible acting abilities and instead, needs someone who can pose as a real scary, threat (and not a campy one like in Batman & Robin). Who better than the man who personifies Jason?
David Tennant as the Riddler
I know what you're thinking. What about Johnny Depp, Joseph Gorden-Levitt? Well I felt David has the right acting chops, the right look, and the right amount of star power. I think if Johnny Depp or Joe Gorden was casted as the Riddler, their star power (especially Depp) would overshadow Bale. Plus, I think Levitt is too young.
Philip Seymore Hoffman as the Penguin
Hoffman definitely has the acting ability and look to play a more realistic, mobster version of the Penguin instead of a goofy, demonic human. This would fit in perfectly with the Nolanverse.
Eva Green as Poison Ivy
After seeing her in "Casino Royale", I'm convince that she has the right ability and look to pull of a seductive, manipulative, down-to-earth (no pun intended)Poison Ivy.
Cillian Murphy as the Scarecrow
'Nuff said.
Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent/Two-Face
I think Aaron Eckhart is the perfect candidate to play both the good guy and bad guy in Harvey Dent/Two-Face. While Nolan has an interesting view on his origin, I think Two-Face did not get the storyline that he deserved.
Paul Giamatti as the Ventriloquist
Paul Giamatti is the perfect candidate to play a bumbling yet sadistic version of the Ventriloquist that will fit well within the Nolanverse. I really like his performance in "Shoot Em' Up".
Kevin Grevioux as Killer Croc
Why not? He has already played a werewolf. Why not a Croc?
Viggo Mortensen as the (1st) Black Mask
I think Viggo is a great actor who can pull off a performance of Black Mask that will really have us shaking in our boots.
Mickey Rourke as Clayface
I don't particularly like Mickey Rourke's acting but I think it's good enough to play Clayface especially with his voice and look.
Eric Bana as Hush
I've heard of a lot of talk about casting Tom Hardy as Hush but I personally feel that he's too young and too much of a bad ass to play a veteran surgeon that Thomas Elliot is. I think Eric Bana will be able to compliment Christian Bale pretty well.
Hope you guys enjoyed it! Remember it's my first FanCast so comments are definitely welcome. If you want me to, in the future I may post my Superman FanCast.
