I'm happy cause of Bane and Catwoman being featured in "The Dark Knight Rises", but what about the other villains that could have been picked in for Christopher Nolan's "Batman" movies. Here's part one of who i think who should have been cast as who and how the characters should have been.
Please know that while everyone has their own POV on casting choices and such, please try to give my casting choices some thought before flamming them.
The Riddler/Edward Nigma- Bill Hader ("Paul", "Superbad", "Saturday Night Live"): Originally a English Professor at Gotham University, Edward Nigma was known to be the smartest man there, able to answer a riddle in just a millisecond, he also had a huge ego to boot too. But after one day where he actually answered a riddle wrong, he had a mental breakdown. So he went into hiding, planning to redeem himself and the way he sees it is to answer the biggest riddle of them all. "Who is Batman?", all he needs to do is raise some hell to get Batman's attention with a bunch of small riddles, everyone Batman gets wrong, something bad happens. Wears his green/black suit and tie and a bowler hat, tattooed around his right eye/cheek is a green question mark.
Sure what most of are ya' are thinking, "Why didn't he go for Joseph Gordon Levit, Johnny Depp, David Tennant, hell, even Micheal Emerson, instead going with a comedian, it's Jim Carrey all over again!". Well reason i picked Bill Hader is cause while yes, he's a VERY funny guy, he just strikes me as someone who tries raising hell just with riddles. Plus his role in 'Paul', while funny, towards the end turned dark (To me it did) and i thought to myself recalling back to that scene "That's like Riddler", so he stuck with me.
Victor Fries/Mr. Freeze- Christoph Waltz ("Ingloruous Basterds", "The Green Hornet", "Water For Elephants") or Bryan Cranston ("Breaking Bad", "Malcolm In The Middle", "Batman: Year One"): Once a famous cryogentic scientist for Gothcorp, a proud husband and a soon to be father, all that was taken away as two crooks, hired by the corrupt head of Gothcorp due to Fries finding out about their illegal activities, robbed his work, left Fries for dead and killed his wife and unborn child. Then the Gotham justice system (Cops, judges, etc.) were paid to keep it on the down low, so now Fries, now calling himself "Mr. Freeze" is seeking cold hearted vengeance years later against not only Gothcorp, but the justice system that f*cked him over. Clad in a dark blue prison uniform and wearings black rimmed glasses with red lens.
Now if there was ever a hard choice between two people, this would be it. I'm a fan of both these guys as both would bring their own awesome edge to Mr. Freeze as both Waltz and Cranston are perfect actors. Way i always pictured him in the "Nolanverse" is not the walking Ice suit route, but more of a "Law Abiding Citizen" route with him striking back against both Gothcorp and the justice system using ice/cold related kills, like with Co2 or ice picks. Plus i always pictured a kill where Mr. Freeze killed a guy by shoving ice cream cones down the guys throat and telling Batman "Think he might have gotten a little brain freeze, maybe from eating the ice cream too fast.", all while licking a fudgepop calmly.
Matt Hagan/Clayface- Michael Rooker ("The Walking Dead", "Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer", "Mallrats"): A former film actor during the 1980's, Matt Hagen was the big time star everyone hailed, every guy wanted to be him, every girl wanted him. Then in 1986, he was in a horrific car crash which he barely made it out of alive. He survived at the cost of his face becoming gruesomely disfigured, now that no one wanted him to star due to his looks, he killed his agent in a rage before turning into a life of a assassin, known to be able to blend in due to his background in Special Makeup Effects and acting, he can now look, sound, act, be anyone he could be. Now he's gotten his next job, to kill the Bat. He at first doesn't look disfigured, but his false 'face' covers his gruesome disfigured face.
Another actor i'm a fan of, thanks to "Henry", Michael lately has hit it big once again with Critics thanks to his role in "The Walking Dead", i love how he could play the deep damaged character, then a good guy cop (As seen in "The Dark Half"), then crazy (Once again, in "Henry"). He's a great actor and seeing him as Clayface would be perfect as he would do many different types of acting while going to get his kill.
Garfield Lynns/Firefly- Justin Welborn ("Dance Of The Dead", "The Signal", "The Final Destination"): Garfield Lynns, a former lackey for Carmine Falcone who grew up displaying signs of pyromania. Arson was his specialty AND his way of life. He believes he can see visions in the flames and has a tattoo of a firefly on his hand, where he got his nickname. Once Falcone was arrested, Garfield became his own leader and spread his reign of fire and terror around Gotham, embracing the fire. Batman has, many times, arrested Firefly, but he always manages to escape. Another notable thing about Firefly is the burn marks on his hands and arms and the insane smile that grows on his face whenever he sees his work in action.
What can i say, i like horror movie actors. Justin, known to be in Indie films more than mainstream ones, is one of my favorite horror actors as he has a wide range of roles. I first saw him in "Dance Of The Dead" which he played the crazy redneck student Kyle and i knew he'd be a favorite of mine just due to his focus to roles. I then also watched him in "The Signal" and saw how great he was playing serious. When i thought of who Firefly would be, Justin was the first and only choice in my mind. Plus seeing him as Firefly teaming with Christoph as Mr. Freeze, epicness.
Floyd Lawton/Deadshot- Choi Min-Sik ("Oldboy", "I Saw The Devil", "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance"): A Half-Caucasian/Half-Korean assassin (Born to a American stripper and a South Korean business man thanks to a one night stand), Floyd Lawton was part of the United States Army as a sniper (As part as a Squad called SS-Company, or "Suicide Squad Company"), one who "Never Missed". His past, being that he killed by mistake his half-brother and saved his step-father who married his mom and hated him, is a twisted one. After going AWOL, Floyd later resurraces as a assassin and becomes one of the best of all time. He, as you can tell, looks more Korean than White and has a custom pair of silenced, wrist-mounted guns and custom made Kevlar body armor and mask with a red targeting scope built in.
Man, more actors i'm fans of, playing favories. Kidding. Reason i went with Choi is cause it'd totally be different to see him as Deadshot as no one would expect it. Seeing as he is a great GREAT actor, especially in "Oldboy" as Dae-Su and "I Saw The Devil" as Kyung-chul. He's my favorite Korean actor and seeing how he can play different roles, i knew he'd be a better Deadshot than my first choice, James Franco (Not to say he wouldn't be good, it'd be awesome if James Franco was, it's just Choi would be better.)
Part Two is coming next.
