In this fan cast, I tried to not only cast characters that have never (or rarely) been cast before, but I also tried to use actors who haven't been used before...so, here goes.
A.J. Buckley as Jack Russell
It's important to remember that Jack Russell is not a "super hero"--he is a werewolf; he's just an average guy who's cursed. Basically, after looking long and hard for someone to play Jack, I landed on Buckley because he has that "normal guy" quality that is important for Jack.
Alona Tal as Rachel Van Helsing
True, true, Rachel isn't a "Werewolf By Night" character, but I said I'd be casting more than just "WWBN" folks. I chose Alona because watching any given episode of Supernatural that features her character makes it pretty clear that she can play a strong female monster hunter.
Anna Enger as Topaz
When looking for the perfect actress to portray Topaz, I hit a roadblock--nobody knows anything about Topaz, not even Topaz (mysterious past and all...the old "wolverine" formula). I just went with a good actress who also looked the part. Nuff Said.
Anthony Stewart Head as Silver Dagger
Because A.S.H. seems like he'd make a good excommunicated priest-turned assassin.
Armie Hammer as Frank Drake
In researching his character, I decided to play up the "Rich Playboy who spent all his money" aspect of the character, and Armie not only looks like what you'd expect from that, but a really talented actor as well.
Denzel Washington as Blade
Okay, to be honest...I kind of liked the first Blade movie, but after that, they all went down hill fast. I heard they were rebooting it (maybe) and I figured, why not cast a guy that can actually act? Check out the trailer to "Book of Eli" if you don't believe he can handle some insane vampire killing action. (Note, I know...Book of Eli isn't about a vampire hunter, I was just referring to the fight scenes, and how he handles them.)
Gabriel Byrne as Dracula
Because Gabriel Byrne is one of the few guys you wouldn't laugh at if he dressed like Marvel Comics' Dracula.
Gary Oldman as Dr. Michael Morbius
Oldman would be able to handle the duality of the Human Michael/Vampire Michael story with ease. Not that I'm against Del Toro, I just wanted to come up with a different option.
Joel Gretsch as Moon Knight
I didn't want to deal with Moon Knight because he's been done to death on these fan casts, but I decided that I'd give it a shot--and I've been watching V lately, so...enter Joel Gretsch.
John Rhys-Davies as Belric Marcosa
I just REALLY wanted to be the guy who did a fan cast that had a character with a chicken leg-shaped pegleg.
Keith David as Brother Voodoo
I think I've seen this before, but I stuck with it because I mentioned it before I ever saw anyone use him as Voodoo. Not only does David LOOK like Voodoo, but his rumbling, smooth voice practically raises the dead by itself.
Matt Frewer as Simon Garth
I've always liked the character Zombie for some reason, and Matt Frewer seems like a guy that would make him both humorous and sympathetic while maintaining that level of mystery needed to keep him unpredictable.
Matt Bomer as Daimon Hellstrom
I see the Son of Satan (or "Satanish", rather) being a likable, affable kind of guy, but deep down, everybody knows he's bad news...Bomer plays an earthly version of this dynamic every week on "White Collar"
Michael Madsen as Hangman
I always liked that Hangman was a cinema-based villain, and Madsen just seems like a guy who grew up watching tons of movies...much like Hangman. Madsen also has the charm to switch from psychopathic hit-man to do-gooder superhero on a dime, and something to note about Hangman, if you didn't know, is that he THINKS he's doing the right thing...though he's usually mistaken.
Misha Collins as Hannabal King
I like Ryan Reynolds as an actor, but not only is he going to continue on as Deadpool, but his version of Hannabal was completely wrong. Misha's screen-time on Supernatural proves he can easily handle stoic, introverted characters...and hey, he even dresses like King.
Norman Reedus as Adam Warlock
Something about Reedus just seems distant, which is how I see the almost human Adam Warlock (also, the most "out there" character I cast this time around, considering my theme.)
Oliver Platt as The Nameless Leader of The Committee
The Committee, the group that Moon Knight used to work for...those guys that are obsessed with Jack Russell and his family--turns out that their leader doesn't even have a name. I cast Oliver Platt because he seems like a guy who would create an organization in order to rationalize his stalker-ish actions. (Y'know what, just watch "2012" and tell me he wouldn't be a great leader for The Committee based on that alone. see any of his other work to back it up...I'm partial to "Flatliners")
And last but not least...
Timothy Dalton as Doctor Strange
Now, I don't want to hear anything like "NOOOOO!!!! We already cast Liam Neeson/Johnny Depp/Whoever Else as Doctor Strange!!! Blasphemy!!!" I don't care. it's MY cast. YOU didn't actually cast anybody, considering the movie is, as of yet, still unmade. I'm not against any of these choices--I just wanted to pick someone new just to see if it could be done. Now, if you have any constructive criticism of my pick of Tim Dalton, by all means, have at it...
Any other constructive criticism/comments are, of course, welcome. Excelsior!
