This is how I DO IT. A lot of comics artist have their own technique and style but this is how I do mine. You can still do whatever you wanna do anyway.
One important thing, you should be turning on your radio while drawing an image because it helps. I did this drawing while the radio was playing different kinds of music though I listen mostly to Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth, I prefer mellow music while drawing some stuff. And the radio was playing Kenny Roger's "You Decorated my Life" while I'm doing my thing. And this is what I came up with.
THE PROCESS...
START WITH A GREAT REFERENCE:
Find the best image of Wolverine that you want to draw. There's a lot of that available on the internet! I choose this because it look's badass!
START TO SKETCHING THE WHOLE THING USING A PENCIL:
I usually starts with a .7 mechanical pencil with HB lead, I use mechanical pencil while drawing because I hate sharpening a wooden pencil. A Vellum board paper is nice because it's like Bristol board too. I usually starts drawing the eyes first.
THE FINISHED SKETCH OF THE HEAD...
From the sketch alone, you must already have that kick-ass image of Wolverine on paper. The image must come at you like a cobra, like Logan was saying something like..."You think youre pretty tough with a name like Wayne eh? Well I'm gonna kick your ass so hard you'l be burfin' farts for a week."
NOTE: You can add little drawings of Wolverine on the sides to make your Wolverine drawing worthy of the Canadian Mutant himself.
START INKING THE PENCILS...
Again, I usually starts with the eyes! The eyes!!! After filling the eyes with inks using tech pens, I use a Sharpie marker when doing shadow effects on the nose the teeth and whatever you want to put shadows on.
After I'm finished with his scruffy visage, I started doing the hair. I don't want to use a Sharpie and color the whole thing in black because I wanted to do as many visible strands of hair as possible. So I use tech pens again.
Some Hugh Jackman hair detail action...
I've added some cross-hatching technique on Logan's beard, neck and throat area so as to make him more bad-ass! Because Jean Grey wants kissing him rough. Eat your heart out Slim!
TIME TO GET HIM HIS ADAMATIUM CLAWS:
The claws got to be long and sharp necessary to make it a true legend. And it always come in handy specially when pinching Jean Greys ass. Booyah!!!
LEAVE IT FOR A WHILE:
I leave it for a while and I stare at the first two images on the paper while listening to Kenny Roger's "Through the Years" on my radio.
Look for something that you can still add on the image to make it ooze with awesomeness because youre drawing a Wolverine comic book cover! And if you can't do it with dignity, beware because he'll come to your house and piss on your lawn.
AFTER STARING AT IT AND ADDING SOME UNNECESSARY INKING BECAUSE YOURE COOL.
You finally get to draw the third and final Wolverine piece!
LEAVE IT FOR A WHILE AGAIN:
Leave it for a while and stare at the drawing again while listening to The Carpenters "Top of the World" playing on your broken radio. And then proceed to add the a weapon-X body that heals itself.
THE FINISHED DRAWING:
Now you can turn off youre radio and play Enter Sandman on your iPhone!
