I am a strong believer that an epic movie needs an epic score.
The score of a movie is often overlooked although a decent score sets the tone of a scene, builds suspence and adds volume and emotion to the things happening on screen.

I dont think anyone can argue that the original superman score by john williams for the reeve superman movies is on of the greatest, inspiring and beautiful scores ever to be heard on screen however a reboot superman needs a reboot score.

Where SUPERMAN RETURNS Went wrong:

When it was announced that the original score was to be used in Superman Returns I dont think anyone was happier than me although it was only the main certain themes used Fanfare/Can you read my mind and then the rest was filled in by John OTTMAN who I am ruling out.

A Reboot needs Rebooted score:

And so to MAN OF STEEL. this movie needs a complete rebooted score to detach its self from the donner/reeve universe and to create a new feeling to the films that follow.
My thoughts on on a new score is that it above all needs to be a quality composer, a big name.

CONTENDERS:

John Williams:
An amzing composer and the biggest of them all in my opinion. If Williams composed a brand new theme this could be an option if anyone is going to do a new theme to re do the original Williams could be the man to attempt to renew the franchise.

Hans Zimmer:
Already rumoured and debunked although Zimmer is an outstanding composer not just for Dark Knight and alike. but I dont think a Dark Knight style theme would suit superman.
I am thiking a gladiator style score previously done by Zimmer.
I have always seen superman as a greek stlye god metaphor and the comparasin are there for this style score to work.

Danny Elfman.
Again an amazing film composer with 90s Batman and later Spider-Man and Hulk which is one of my favoutire scores he has done. He is more than capable and previously on the books to do the Tim Burton Superman.

Thomas Newman:
One of my favourite composers for gut wrenching emotion I dont know weather he could do SUPERHERO but worth a mention for his oscar nominated work and sheer back catalogue.

Maybe they will go down a completely different route and use actual songs which mite work but a long shot for such a big production.

I wait in anticipation.

As long as it isn''t Tyler Bates...

chop chop guitar!! (LOUD NOISES)!

Jablonsky is a good choice. As is Newman. Left field choice, Craig Armstrong (Who did the score for Incredible Hulk) would be a great candidate also, his score for Hulk was excellent.

I personally am a big fan of Alexandre Desplat. Michael Giacchino and Steve Jablonksy are also good choices. I think Hans Zimmer could also do it. I think use the John Williams theme but not him composing. I dont think Elfman or Newman would be good.

I would be interested to see what JOhn Williams could conjure up for a reboot.....other than that i think Zimmer would be the classic choice...i loved the score to the gladiator.

Jablonksy did a fantastic score for A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Ottman gave Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer an epic score (although the movie itself sucked)! I would go with either of those two. If those guys pass, then give Danny Elfman a shot.

Hans Zimmer all the way!

For a film that is a REBOOT...we need a completely REBOOTED theme song!

wow it will be weird to hear a new superman theme....I do not think this theme will stick like the original did...when I think batman theme I think danny elfman not hans Zimmer...even though Zimmer did provide great music for the movie he worked on but the theme wasn't strong enough or different enough to be called a theme
