Earlier today, Beware the Batman premiered. I had been liking the look of the show for a while and upon hearing from a friend who saw the show early, I knew it wasn't going to be the worst thing in the world as the complainers were complaining about. The pilot exceeded my expectations. It's what I would do with Batman if I wrote the character.
However, it took a few cues from Nolan and a lot of inspiration from Earth One and Morrison, which is great, but the reboot movie for the character has to be different enough from the past films because it has to make reason for it being new in the first place (if that makes sense).
As a few have said, it should be set in the time where Batman began: the 30's. I'm basing my casting off of a really cool article found here: http://listenjena.com/post/55188521629/the-next-batman-movie
Jim Caviezel or Thomas Gibson as Bruce Wayne/Batman
Caviezel's got the look of the Tim Sale Bruce.
From what I've seen of Criminal Minds, Gibson can have a similar energy that Kevin Conroy has.
John Cleese as Alfred Pennyworth
Forgive me for some common fan casting. I think he could make a good Gordon as well but I'd like Alfred to be more active as a character in a way that even Caine wasn't. I don't mean Alfred would be physical in this ideal movie but he'd have some freedom to do more than be Bruce Wayne's butler.
Tom Sellack as Thomas Wayne
Just like the Tim Sale art. I feel like Martha's role is much smaller so I won't be casting her. It'd be overkill.
Donald Sutherland as Commissioner Gordon
The soul of the GCPD but he knows the time will come soon when he has to retire which is why he looks for hope in this new vigilante called Bat-Man.
Jeremy Ratchford as Lt. Bullock
Gabriel Macht as D.A. Harvey Dent
Rory Kinnear as the Mad Monk
I'd love to see something similar to what we saw in New Frontier. The opening of the movie could take that scene and use it to setup what type of Batman you'd be getting.
James Purefoy as Black Mask
Our main villain who gives reason for the mob to be involved. He wouldn't be exactly the same character you know from the Red Hood books.
Colm Meaney as Oswald "the Penguin" Cobblepot
Albert Finney Rupert Thorne
Rachel Weisz as Selina Kyle
As the article I linked earlier said, she's the perfect femme fatale type for this being set in the 30's. I'm late to the idea that she could be a great Catwoman.
