Thoughts on Avengers: Age of Ultron Announcement

While I’m excited to hear the name of the sequel, and I’m surprisingly glad they’re saving Thanos, there’s still two little things that concern me. Click on to find out what they are.

Okay, so unless Whedon wants to pull a Sam Raimi, Thanos is going to be put off until the Avengers 3. I honestly thought that Thanos would be the villain in A2, so this is a little surprising. But I must admit it’s a pleasant one. Ultron is a really cool, ruthless villain that will give the Avengers some trouble. I can’t wait to see how Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch play into all this.

However, while I have complete faith that Avengers 2 will be another masterpiece, there are still two things that bother me a little bit.

1. The Adaption of “Age of Ultron”

Don’t get me wrong, Age of Ultron is a great story. But Marvel has, what, 70 years worth of stories to tell? The fact that they’re adapting some of the newer ones concern me a bit. I’d rather see some of the elements of the older stories.

The fact that they’re titling it “Age of Ultron” at least implies that the story will have some sort of influence on the movie. But who knows? Maybe they’re just calling it that as a way of making money so people will go buy the comics. So I guess I shouldn’t jump to conclusions. But I’m not gonna lie, it makes me a little wary.

2. Too Many Avengers?

When I heard that Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch were going to be added to the team, I got excited as a mother[frick]er. But when I heard that everyone from the original team would be coming back, my excitement decline ever so slightly.

You see, as even Kevin Feige has pointed out, the Avengers are all about rotation. They don’t necessarily get bigger (as, I believe the JLA do) but they rotate. At least somewhat, you know? I don’t really have a problem with the number of people in the roster growing SO AS MUCH as the fact that no one is leaving.

If the roster just stayed as it is announced, it wouldn’t be bad at all, so I hope it stays that way. But the very fact that the villain is Ultron implies the presence of Hank Pym (Ant-Man) and the Vision (who we all know is rumored to be played by Vin Diesel). Not to mention the rumors of War Machine. Hell, let’s go ahead and throw in the “little” rumors of Black Panther and Falcon.

In closing, I know I really don’t have much to worry about. It’s Whedon. It’s the Avengers. Plus, Tony Stark is in it. Lol but I'm very excited. This just the two little things that bother me a little. No biggie.

Please leave your thoughts in the comment section. Thanks!

Also, on a side note…
Do you still the think the Masters of Evil will be making an appearance?
With Ultron announced, what role does Guardians of the Galaxy (and perhaps Thanos) play in all this?

I'm worried that they may rush it.

They need to set up Pym, Ultron, Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver AND Ultron needs to lose it and become viable threat.

PS: This should be in Editorials

I'm not entirely sure that they're actually adapting the recent "Age of Ultron" story for the movie. I think (hope) they're just using it as the name for the movie.

At the very least, if they are referencing that comic arc just show a destroyed earth overrun by Ultron as a "what if" should the Avengers lose.

How will they rush it? Pym will have his own film following the Avengers 2

I think they're just using the title "Age of Ultron" I dont think they'll adapt or use the actual story.

@TayDee

The Ant-Man movie will be about both Lang and Pym.

Ocelot - When has that been confirmed?

"Age of Ultron" was not a good story, it started fairly strong but went downhill from there.

The original script was about Pym being retired and elderly and being a mentor for Lang after he tries to steal The Ant-Man suit, it's clearly based on "To Steal an Ant-Man" which is Wright's favorite comic. They've done rewrites to bring it close to the mcu as it was written before, but the core story will most likely be the same, judging by the way Wright talks about it.

Here is a misconception. Antman did NOT create ULTRON. Henry pym DID. they could easily put Henry pym in the movie, leading to why and how he becomes a hero ( antman ) in edgar wrights Ant man.

Ocelot - How do you know what was featured in the original script?

"They need to set up Pym, Ultron, Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver AND Ultron"

You forgot to mention Ultron.

Well...I do despise myself for being one of those "called it" jagoffs, but I definitely predicted Thanos would NOT be the primary villain of this movie.

That was what was reported and Wright talked about tales of astonish furthermore Wright has said that's the story that he wants to adapt and that it's his favorite arc regarding Ant-Man, in addition to calling it a high tech heist film which all points to Lang.

Also, I wouldn't count on War Machine being in the team. If he appears, I'd expect little more than a cameo. And I also don't really get the impression that Scarlett Witch and Quicksilver will be part of the team either, at least not until the end.

Also, always nice to realize another Latino Review blunder.

Agree with those before me. Age of Ultron is just being used for the title. I am curious to see how A2 deals with this large amount of characters. Not concerned yet, only curious. To the Ant-Man thing, I share a little concern. Maybe Pym will be just Pym in A2, and is Lang is tasked to track down Ultron, leading to him become Ant-Man (MCBM pointed out)? I dont know. Things get kinds murky there. But hey, they're a billion dollar studio, with much smarter people working there than me. I'm not going to make a hole in the floor pacing around in nervousness.

Side note: Does AoU announcement add any fuel to the fire about Vin Diesel playing Vision, or is that just wishful thinking?

i think they will use some elements from age of ultron like ultrons design and the ultron robot things (you know what im talking about). i love ultron he is awsome and i can totally imagine him with vin diesels voice, i wonder what the skript will be like, cos that will decide the film, im hopeing it's around 3 hour long but no longer just so everyone gets enought screen time.
cant wait im so exited

With Ultron they'll need a lot of people. Cap, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Falcon, War Machine and Vision. Yeah it's 11 people, but they'll need that many for a robot army.

i believe marvel are just using the title "age of ultron" it won't be based on age of ultron event.

as for ultron being in the avengers before hank pym they could get round it this way.

phase 2

the avengers 2,ultron comes from the future to take on earths mightiest heroes

phase 3

ant-man,whatever story they come up with could be the main plot but throughout the film you could see hank pym working in his lab on some project.

later on in the movie fury/coulson could offer him a place on the avengers team, which he excepts then we go back down to the lab & pym lifts something off his work bench revealing ultron's head.

then the audience realizes that pym is the reason that ultron attacked the avengers & now his just joined their line up.

Despite the fact the title is Age of Ultron, it should be based on Ultron Unlimited.

I would have liked to see Red Zone adapted to the big screen. That would make a great movie.
