Over the weekend, it was reported that Adam Driver has officially signed on to play Fantastic Four's Reed Richards. The trades have yet to chime in on that so, for the time being, we're going to take those claims with a pinch of salt!
If other recent rumours are to be believed, Margot Robbie will play the Invisible Woman, with Paul Mescal and Daveed Diggs eyed for the Human Torch and The Thing, respectively.
We have a slightly more concrete piece of news to share with you today, though, as a new IMDb Pro listing appears to confirm that three-time Academy Award winner Dante Ferretti has joined Fantastic Four as its Production Designer.
His credits include movies like Interview with the Vampire, Casino, Gangs of New York, The Aviator, Shutter Island, Hugo, and Cinderella. Many fans have already pointed out that Ferretti has worked on a large number of movies set in the past, prompting scoopers to revisit old rumours about Fantastic Four being set in the 1960s.
In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the Sorcerer Supreme asked Earth-838's Mister Fantastic, "Didn't you guys chart in the 60s?" That could have been interpreted as a joke about The Beatles or confirmation the team existed in the MCU during that period.
We find the latter hard to believe as retconning them into this shared world now would be a big ask. It's far more likely they ended up being set back in time before returning to the present day, and Ferretti hasn't exclusively worked on period movies.
Matt Shakman is directing the Fantastic Four reboot and it's currently unclear how much the ongoing WGA strike will impact the project. Last month, it was reported that Josh Friedman, who worked on Avatar: The Way of Water and TNT's Snowpiercer, had been tapped to take charge of rewrites so chances are he's now downed tools.
Fantastic Four is set to be released in theaters on February 14, 2025.
